An improved surface evaporation system where droplet size and spray configuration is controlled and modified based upon ambient conditions in order to prevent the spreading of salts and other contaminants outside of a treatment pit or specific area. Water droplet size can be controlled by adjustment of the spray nozzle side. Increasing the nozzle size to increase droplet size results in a reduction of mist travel direction (i.e., drift distance). Reducing the nozzle size decreases the droplet size, and increases drift distance. Similarly, changing the configuration of the spray will affect drift distance. For example, changing the spray direction and height from a vertical spray direction to a flatter, more horizontal direction (with resulting greater area) results in a substantially decreased drift distance. In addition, the system also takes into account the effects of wind speed and direction and humidity. Evaporation modules may use standard spray nozzles, or ultrasonic evaporators.

An energy efficient distillation process is provided. Energy efficiency originates from a combination two processes: a) the vaporization occurring with high pressure and high temperature, which decreases enthalpy of vaporization, where the enthalpy of vaporization can be equal to zero if the vaporization occurs to critical state of vaporizing fluid; and b) thermal energy and hydraulic energy of vaporized fluid return to the feed liquid with the system of heat exchangers and pressure exchangers. The energy efficient distillation herein can be applied in multiple existing distillation processes.

Wastewater evaporator

The wastewater evaporator provides for effluent evaporation in a septic system to eliminate need for a drain field. The evaporator tank contains a plurality of evaporator trays in a vertical array. Solids settle in the septic tank, and liquid effluent flows from the septic tank to the evaporator tank and cascades sequentially from the uppermost to the lowermost tray. The multiple trays increase the surface area of liquid contained therein, thereby greatly enhancing evaporation. An above-surface air pump and vent may be provided for air flow through the evaporator tank. An ultrasonic generator may be installed in each tray to increase the surface area of the effluent to enhance evaporation. An additional intermediate pump tank may be provided between the septic tank and the evaporator tank to control effluent flow and delivery to the evaporator tank. A sump pump in the pump tank periodically delivers effluent to the evaporator tank.

Direct solar desalination with atomized droplets and heat recovery

There is disclosed a portable direct solar desalination system, comprising a solar receiver and evaporator unit comprising inlet and outlet ports for incoming and outgoing water and air; an ultrasonic atomizer unit positioned within the solar receiver and evaporator unit for generating atomized droplets inside the solar receiver and evaporator unit; wherein air flows into the solar receiver and evaporator unit via the inlet port, thereby carrying the atomized droplets through the solar receiver and evaporator unit, wherein entrained droplets of the air-droplet mixture are exposed to solar radiations falling on the solar receiver and evaporator unit, which enables the atomized droplets to directly capture the incident solar radiations, leading to droplets evaporation, thereby producing freshwater. Also disclosed is a process of solar desalination comprising directly capturing solar energy by atomized water droplets in a solar evaporator.
