HYDROPHOBIC MEDIA FOR THE COLLECTION OF MINERAL PARTICLES IN AQUEOUS SYSTEMS

A composite medium for collecting mineral particles in an aqueous slurry has a polymer substrate deposited or penetrated with an inorganic material and further coated with a hydrophobic material. The hydrophobic material can be a hydrophobic silane or a hydrophobic polymer such as polysiloxane. Alternatively, the inorganic material deposited substrate is first reacted with a reactive silane and then coated with a hydrophobic polymer. The polymer substrate can be in the form of a spherical bead, a small cube, a filter or a conveyor.

Filtering fabric and process for forming same

Embodiments disclosed herein include a stitched filtering fabric including a barrier layer configured to inhibit air flow through the filtering fabric, a yarn stitched through and forming a plurality of stitch holes in the barrier layer, and a first yarn layer comprising interlocking loops of the yarn. The barrier layer is configured to direct air flow through the yarn within the stitched holes.

ABSORPTION AND FILTRATION MEDIA

Disclosed are keratin fibre cellular components, specifically keratin fibre cuticle and cortical cells, and their use as absorption and filtration media, and in thermal insulation materials. The keratin fibre cellular components may be oxidised. The keratin fibre cellular components have improved absorbency and filtration capacity compared to the source keratin fibres. The keratin fibre cellular components may be used in, for example, various products for passive absorption and active filtration of gas or liquid media.

FUNCTONALIZED CELLULAR ELASTOMER FOAM, AND A USE OF A CELLULAR ELASTOMER FOAM AS A CATALYST SUBSTRATE--

A method for modifying a cellular polymer foam with apparent porosity, which includes providing a cellular polymer foam with apparent porosity, placing the cellular polymer foam in contact with at least one compound in order to obtain a cellular polymer foam including on the surface thereof an intermediate phase formed from the compound having at least one catechol unit. The foam may be used as a catalyst substrate.
