An object of the present invention is to increase the reduction performance of nitrogen oxides compared to existing three-way catalysts; simultaneously inhibit the emission of ammonia and nitrous oxide; simplify a process by means of a method of further doping an iridium-ruthenium catalyst into a commercial three-way catalyst; and expand the scope of application. The present invention provides a catalyst for simultaneously inhibiting the emission of ammonia and nitrous oxide by doping an iridium-ruthenium catalyst component into a three-way catalyst (TWC), a diesel oxidation catalyst, or a lean NOx trap supported on a honeycomb support.

A nitrous oxide (N.sub.2O) removal catalyst composite is provided, comprising a N.sub.2O removal catalytic material on a substrate, the catalytic material comprising a rhodium (Rh) component supported on a ceria-based support, wherein the catalyst composite has a H.sub.2-consumption peak of about 100° C. or less as measured by hydrogen temperature-programmed reduction (H.sub.2-TPR). Methods of making and using the same are also provided.

A honeycomb structure includes: a honeycomb structure body including a plurality of cells; and a plugging portion to alternately plug open end parts of the plurality of cells on one side as an inflow side of the exhaust gas and open end parts on the other side as an outflow side of the exhaust gas. The partition wall is loaded, on the side of the outflow cells, with an oxidation catalyst made of a transition metal oxide to oxidize NO gas or an oxidation catalyst made of a transition metal oxide loaded at CeO.sub.2 to oxidize NO gas. The partition wall has porosity of 70% or less, the oxidation catalyst has a particle diameter of more than 1 μm and less than 50.0 μm, and the loading amount of the oxidation catalyst is 5.0 g/L or more and 50 g/L or less.

Described is a selective catalytic reduction material comprising a spherical particle including an agglomeration of crystals of a molecular sieve. The catalyst is a crystalline material that is effective to catalyze the selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides in the presence of a reductant at temperatures between 200° C. and 600° C. A catalyst system for reducing N.sub.2O emissions in the exhaust system of a vehicle is provided and comprises a support in communication with the exhaust gas stream, with the support including an exhaust gas inlet and an exhaust gas outlet. The systems include a hydrogen generator, a hydrogen selective catalytic reduction (H.sub.2-SCR) article, and one or more of a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and/or a lean NOx trap (LNT) and/or a low temperature NOx adsorber (LTNA). Certain articles may comprise a zone coated substrate and/or a layered coated substrate and/or an intermingled coated substrate of one or more of the H.sub.2-SCR and/or DOC and/or LNT and/or LTNA catalytic compositions.
