MULTI-FUNCTIONAL HYBRID MATERIAL BASED ON SEPIOLITE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL RECOVERY AND BIO-REMEDIATION
A multifunctional hybrid material based on sepiolite for environmental recovery and bio-remediation is described. In particular, the invention describes the design and development of suitably functionalized hybrid nanomaterials starting from sepiolite and the subsequent study of the absorbent and degrading properties in relation to aromatic hydrocarbons, by activating hydrocarbon-clastic bacteria. These nanomaterials have been prepared in order to remove hydrocarbon pollutants (e.g. oil) in natural matrices (marine environment), with potential applications in the field of environmental remediation.
Packaging films
A packaging film is described comprising at least one polymer film layer in which particles of a small-pore or a medium-pore palladium-doped zeolite are dispersed. Such films are of particular utility for the adsorption of volatile organic compounds, such as those originating from organic matter.
AMMONIUM-FUNCTIONALIZED POLYSULFONE COPOLYMERS FOR MOISTURE-SWING CO2 CAPTURE
A quaternary ammonium-functionalized poly(arylene ether sulfone) copolymer for moisture-swing CO2 capture, and a method for producing the same, is disclosed. The copolymer includes a polysulfone copolymer having a copolymerization unit based on diallyl bisphenal A (DABA) and has quaternary ammonium functionalities. The method for preparation of a quaternary ammonium-functionalized poly(arylene ether sulfone) copolymer includes reacting diallyl bisphenol A (DABA) with bisphenol A (BPA) and 4,4'-difluorodiphenyl sulfone (DFDPS) to form an allyl-modified poly(arylene ether sulfone) (PAES-co-APAES) copolymer, then modifying the PAES-co-APAES copolymer to convert the allyl functionalities to tertiary amines, forming tertiary amine-modified PAES (PAES-co-TAPAES) copolymer. The method also includes converting the tertiary amine of the PAES-co-TAPAES copolymer to quaternary ammonium, forming quaternary ammonium-modified PAES. These quaternary ammonium-modified PAES may be processed into membranes, films, and hollow fibers.
Mixed-mode chromatography membranes
Described are composite materials and methods of using them for mixed-mode chromatography. In certain embodiments, the composite material comprises a support member, comprising a plurality of pores extending through the support member; and a multi-functional cross-linked gel. The multi-functional cross-linked gel possesses at least two of the following functions or characteristics: cationic, anionic, hydrophobic, hydrophilic, thiophilic, hydrogen bond donating, hydrogen bond accepting, pi-pi bond donating, pi-pi bond accepting, or metal chelating. The composite materials may be used in the separation or purification of a biological molecule or biological ion.
MATERIAL AND METHOD FOR PERFORMING A SEPARATION BASED ON HALOGEN BONDING
This invention relates to a new stationary phase carrying functional groups comprising a halogen substituted aromatic ring. Target molecules can interact with this stationary phase by halogen bonding. The stationary phase is suitable for SPE or chromatographic separations.
DIRECT CAPTURE OF CARBON DIOXIDE
The present disclosure provides systems and methods for direct air capture of carbon dioxide or other gases through a calcium sorbent in a manner that allows for wide scale, relatively low cost implementation. In particular, a calcium sorbent may be provided as a substantially thin coating on one or more substrates and utilized for direct air capture of carbon dioxide through chemisorption. The carbonated sorbent may be disposed of for sequestration of the carbon dioxide or regenerated with capture of carbon dioxide released from the carbonated sorbent during the regeneration process.
POLYCRYSTALLINE METAL-ORGANIC FRAMEWORK MEMBRANES FOR SEPARATION OF MIXTURES
Disclosed herein is a polycrystalline metal-organic framework membrane comprising a substrate material having a surface and a polycrystalline metal-organic framework attached to the surface of the substrate material, wherein the polycrystalline metal-organic framework is formed from a secondary building unit having the formula Ia or IIb and a ligand as defined in the application.
Ligand bound MBP membranes, uses and method of manufacturing
