Methods of operating fluid catalytic cracking processes to increase coke production

A process for upgrading a hydrocarbon feed includes passing the hydrocarbon feed and an aromatic bottoms stream to an FCC unit including an FCC reactor and a catalyst regenerator. The hydrocarbon feed is hydrogen-rich having at least 12 wt. % hydrogen, and the aromatic bottoms stream is a bottoms stream produced from an aromatics recovery complex for processing reformate from naphtha reforming. The hydrocarbon feed and aromatic bottoms stream are cracked over the FCC catalysts to produce an effluent and spent FCC catalysts having coke deposits. The spent FCC catalyst is regenerated through combustion of the coke deposits. The hydrogen-rich hydrocarbon feed does not produce enough coke to satisfy the heat demand of the FCC reactor. Cracking the aromatic bottoms stream increases the amount of coke so that combustion of the additional coke during regeneration produces additional heat to satisfy the heat demand of the FCC reactor.

Polymerization reactor system comprising at least one withdrawal valve

Described herein is a polymerization reactor system comprising at least one loop reactor and/or at least one transfer line, and further comprising at least one withdrawal valve, wherein the at least one withdrawal valve is mounted to a wall of a lower horizontal segment of the loop reactor and/or to a wall of the transfer line, at an angle a of more than 0° and equal to or less than 85°, determined from perpendicular to a tangent of the wall at the mounting position in flow direction of a slurry in the loop reactor and/or in the transfer line. The valve piston of the at least one withdrawal valve comprises a valve plate at an end directed to the at least one loop reactor and/or at an end directed to the at least one transfer line, the valve plate being shaped according to an inner wall of the at least one loop reactor and/or according to an inner wall of the at least one transfer line such that the valve piston is flush with the inner wall of the at least one loop reactor and/or with the inner wall of the at least one transfer line in a closed position of the withdrawal valve. By using such a withdrawal valve, a limitation of the effective withdrawal area can be avoided or at least be reduced such that the liquid slurry can efficiently be withdrawn and the risk of plugging is reduced. Further disclosed is a method for producing an olefin polymer in the inventive polymerization reactor system.

Conveyor system and method

A particular embodiment of the invention relates to a conveyor system (10) for conveying material (for example: particulate material such as a catalyst) from a particular storage area (such as drum (18)) to a second location (such as a reactor (13)). In accordance with the present embodiment of the invention, the conveyor system (10) is adapted to isolate from the environment the particular material to be conveyed; thus, avoiding that the particular material enters in contact with, for example, the atmosphere. Isolating the particular material is particular advantageous; because, for example, the isolation process suppresses activation of the material (such as the catalyst) due to coming in direct contact with the oxygen and moisture content of the atmosphere.

A coke catching apparatus for use in hydrocarbon cracking to assist in the removal of coke and the prevention of coke build up in high coking hydrocarbon processing units. The apparatus includes a grid device for preventing large pieces of coke from entering the outlet of the process refining equipment while allowing small pieces of coke to pass through and be disposed of The coke catching apparatus can be easily disassembled to be removed from the refining process equipment and cleaned.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR HYDROGEN PRODUCTION BY DEHYDROGENATION OF FORMIC ACID

The system includes a reactor vessel having a reactor space bound by a reactor wall. The reactor vessel is arranged for holding a mixture of a catalyst and formic acid in the reactor space. The reactor vessel includes a mixture inflow opening for allowing the mixture to enter the reactor space and a mixture outflow opening for allowing said mixture to exit the reactor space, and a gas outflow opening for allowing hydrogen originating from the mixture to exit the reactor space. A method for hydrogen production includes: providing the formic acid and the catalyst into the reactor space; withdrawing the mixture from the reactor space; heating and/or cooling the mixture to a predetermined temperature range outside the reactor space; and introducing the heated and/or cooled mixture into the reactor space in a predetermined direction having a tangential component arranged for stirring said mixture in the reactor space.
