DIRECT AND SCALABLE ISOLATION OF CIRCULATING EXTRACELLULAR VESICLES FROM WHOLE BLOOD USING CENTRIFUGAL FORCES
A method herein to isolate exosomes includes providing a microfluidic device having a spiral-shaped channel in fluid communication with two inlet ports and at least two outlet ports. One of the two inlet ports is proximal to an inner wall of the spiral-shaped channel and the other is proximal to an outer wall thereof. At least one of the outlet ports is in fluid communication with a container for storing isolated exosomes. A blood sample and sheath fluid are introduced into the inlet ports proximal to the outer and inner walls, respectively, to form a diluted sample in the spiral-shaped channel and driven through for exosomes recovery in the container. The spiral-shaped channel in fluid communication with a first outlet port includes a first outlet channel connecting the spiral-shaped channel to the first outlet port and is longer than other outlet channels respectively connecting the spiral-shaped channel to the other outlet ports. A method of identifying diabetes mellitus is also disclosed herein.

MICROFLUIDIC SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR LOW-SHEAR ISOLATION OF RARE CELLS FROM LARGE SAMPLE VOLUMES
Systems, methods, and techniques are disclosed herein for isolating rare cells and clusters of cells, such as CTCs, from large volumes of sample fluids, such as whole blood, diluted blood, e g, minimally diluted blood, and other samples such as leukapheresis and aphaeresis samples. In some implementations, a microfluidic device includes a particle enrichment module and a particle separation module for iterative multistage sorting. Each module can have an array of islands in a microfluidic channel having a sample inlet at a first end of the first microfluidic channel. The array of islands is arranged in one or more rows that extend along a longitudinal direction in the microfluidic channel. Each island in a row is spaced apart from an adjacent island in the row to form a siphoning channel. The array of islands is configured and arranged to shift portions of fluid through the siphoning channel between adjacent islands.

The invention also relates to a sampler for taking samples from a molten metal bath, particularly a molten iron, the sampler comprising: a carrier tube having an immersion end; a sample chamber assembly arranged on the immersion end of the carrier tube, the sample chamber assembly comprising a cover plate and a housing, wherein the cover plate comprising a sealing member configured to provide a substantially gas tight seal between the cover plate and the housing, wherein the sealing member consist of an essentially non-contaminating material for the samples in the sample chamber.

The present invention relates to a spiral microfluidic device and module for CTC separation from blood, a manufacturing method. When a blood sample and a body fluid sample are respectively injected into the inlet of the device by the method described below, viable CTCs can be isolated and used for the development of specific cancer cell lines. The device has two inlets with a radius of 10 mm or less, a two-loop helical microchannel having a uniform height of a radial inner portion and a radial outer portion, and a rectangular cross-section in which the width of the upper portion is equal to the width of the base, and the two-loop helical microchannel is branched from the CTC and two outlets through which blood cells are separately discharged.
