A process for comminuting particles of heterogeneous material. The particles of heterogeneous material are fragmented and broken into smaller particle size by breaking them against each other. Heterogeneous material means two or more different solid materials or phases in the same solid. The component materials may have different specific gravity and/or hardness. In the process, a slurry of particles of heterogeneous material is pumped through an agitated mixture of impingement media, wherein the impingement media has a size greater than a size of the particles, wherein adjacent impingement media interact to create impingement zones through which the particles pass and impinge each other to cause the particles to fracture and break into smaller particles. The impingement media may be from 5 to 10 times larger than the particles. The impingement media may be harder than the particles. The heterogeneous material may be coal.

The present invention relates to a method for preparing a non-acid-treated eco friendly cellulose nanocrystal and the cellulose nanocrystals prepared by the same. The methods for preparing the non-acid-treated cellulose nanocrystal and extracting the cellulose nanocrystal from cellulosic materials of the present invention are eco-friendly methods, compared with the conventional preparation method for cellulose nanocrystal based on acid-hydrolysis; are efficient due to the total energy saving process; are easy to utilize side products; and are characterized by high yield to produce the target cellulose nanocrystal. The nanocrystal prepared according to the present invention exhibits equivalent or higher aspect ratio, yield and crystallinity than the cellulose nanocrystal prepared through acid hydrolysis, and has remarkably excellent thermal stability, so that it can be effectively used for the production of membranes, electrical and electronic parts, substrates, heat insulating materials, and reinforcing materials required for durability against heat.

Method and apparatus for fracturing particulates during an air mill process. In some embodiments, a disc assembly is rotated within a housing about a central axis. The disc assembly includes a horizontally extending annular ring with opposing innermost and outermost edge surfaces. A retention flange extends adjacent the outermost edge surface of the annular ring. Spaced apart impellers project from an upper surface of the annular ring for movement in a direction of rotation of the annular ring to form an inner zone of lower pressure surrounded by an outer zone of higher pressure. During air mill processing, an inlet stream of particulates is introduced to the inner zone to induce collisions among previously introduced particulates into the inner zone. Reduced-sized fractured particulates are removed from the inner zone using a negative pressure supplied via a vacuum line.

The present disclosure relates to a physically pretreated biomass composition capable of membrane filtration treatment in a biomass solid-liquid separation process, and a method for preparing sugar therefrom.

The physically pretreated biomass composition is very useful for the biomass treatment process because MF clogging phenomena do not occur through specific physical pretreatment (attrition milling) of herbaceous biomass and because MF passage speed is improved such that MF can be used in the biomass solid-liquid separation process.

The pendulum drive further has a motor unit coupled to the eccentric shaft as a drive for the eccentric shaft and optionally further components, wherein a rotary movement of the eccentric shaft via the couplers can be converted into a vibrating movement of the rockers. According to the invention, the centre of gravity of the pendulum drive in a horizontal centre of gravity plane is substantially equidistant from both vibration axes.
