Vortex tube lined with magnets and uses thereof
A magnetic/energetic apparatus for purifying gas mixtures comprises a vortex tube and magnetic elements. Such an apparatus can include an inlet valve configured to receive a gas mixture having one or more disposed paramagnetic gas species and one or more diamagnetic gas species; a high-shear environment energetic separation chamber coupled to the inlet valve; a plurality of magnetic elements coupled to an outer wall of the high-shear environment separation chamber, wherein each of the plurality of magnetic elements are arranged so as to have a respective pole alternating in polarity with respect to an adjacently positioned magnetic element so as to induce a field gradient between each of the adjacently positioned magnetic elements and within the inner wall of the high-shear environment separation chamber; and at least one exit valve so as provide a substantially separated one or more paramagnetic gas species from the one or more diamagnetic gas species.

System and method for processing scrap material
A system for processing scrap material that includes a variable-power electromagnetic drum separator wherein shredded scrap material is placed in free fall at a position proximate the electromagnetic drum separator. A first fraction of the scrap material is attracted to the electromagnetic drum separator and is carried under the rotational axis of the electromagnetic drum separator thereby separating the first fraction of material from a second fraction of the material which continues to free fall and wherein the first fraction is a low-copper ferrous material with the second fraction having a higher non-ferrous content than the first fraction. A magnetic drum separator may be positioned upstream of the variable-power electromagnetic drum separator and be used to separate non-ferrous materials. The variable-power electromagnetic drum separator may be adjusted so that the second fraction includes some ferrous material. A robotic picker may be used to remove undesirable materials from the second fraction.
Magnetic separator, magnetic separator control device, and magnetic sludge removal method
Provided is a magnetic separator in which even when content of a magnetic sludge in a liquid to be treated increases, recovery performance of the magnetic sludge is less likely to degrade and a malfunction of the device is less likely to occur. A part of an outer peripheral surface of a magnet drum is immersed in a flow of the liquid to be treated containing the magnetic sludge. A removing mechanism removes the magnetic sludge on the outer peripheral surface of the magnet drum from the outer peripheral surface of the magnet drum. A magnetic sludge containing information acquisition device acquires magnetic sludge containing information relating to a content of the magnetic sludge contained in the liquid to be treated. A control device changes a magnetic sludge removal capability of the magnet drum depending on the magnetic sludge containing information acquired by the magnetic sludge containing information acquisition device.

Method for performing a magnetic separation procedure
A method for performing a magnetic separation procedure that includes transporting a receptacle containing a fluid medium to a first location of a system, where the fluid medium contains both a sample material and a suspension of magnetically-responsive solid supports. At the first location, the fluid medium is exposed to a first magnetic field for a first dwell period, thereby isolating the solid supports within the receptacle, where no portion of the fluid medium is removed from the receptacle at the first location. The receptacle is then transported from the first location to a second location of the system, where the fluid medium is exposed to a second magnetic field for a second dwell period. Following the second dwell period, at least a portion of the fluid medium is removed from the receptacle. A suspension fluid is then dispensed into the receptacle, and the contents of the receptacle are agitated to suspend the solid supports within the suspension fluid.

Magnetic separating apparatus and magnetic sorting method
A magnetic separating apparatus and magnetic sorting method can precisely and efficiently separate magnetic and non-magnetic material with a simple structure. The apparatus includes a granular mixture supply portion that supplies a granular mixture so as to naturally fall; a rotating drum having a part of an outer surface located on a falling path of the granular mixture, the rotating drum being rotationally driven in an opposite direction relative to the falling direction of the granular mixture; a first magnet that imparts a magnetic attractive force to a certain area defined by rotation in the opposite direction with a sorting area as a starting point; a naturally falling area to which the granular mixture that has come into contact with the rotating drum naturally falls; and a conveyed falling area to which the granular mixture naturally falls after being magnetically attracted to and conveyed by the rotating drum.
