SYSTEMS AND PROCESSES FOR INJECTING GAS-INFUSED ADDITIVES
The present disclosure relates generally to systems, apparatuses, and processes for preparing a gas-infused additive that is useful within gas-floatation systems configured to separate solids and/or oils from a liquid within a suspension. The gas-infused additive can be injected into systems having a floatation consolidator to provide additional dissolved gas to the system. Advantageously, the processes and apparatuses disclosed herein are compatible with systems and processes having a single injection point for the addition of an additive or gas, without requiring substantial modification or reconfiguration of the system. The inventions described herein additionally teach that the gas-infused additive can be prepared and injected downstream of any pump present within the system, thereby protecting the pump from the damaging effects of cavitation corrosion and similar phenomena.
PROCESS FOR RECOVERING CRUDE TALL OIL
A process and apparatus for recovering crude tall oil are disclosed. Acidulation of a crude tall oil soap stream generates a spent acid stream that comprises lignin and entrained crude tall oil. By subjecting the spent acid stream to dissolved gas flotation, a lignin phase comprising entrained crude tall oil can be recovered and causticized, resulting in recovery of most of the crude tall oil that was present in the spent acid stream. A clarified spent acid stream is also generated, which can be treated with caustic and utilized for a soap washing process that integrates easily into the overall CTO recovery process. The apparatus comprises a crude tall oil acidulation unit, a dissolved gas flotation unit, a causticizing unit, and a soap separation unit. The inventive process marries dissolved gas flotation, a well-known water treatment process, with causticization of a recovered lignin phase, a step known from batch acidulation, to improve overall tall oil recovery from a continuous process.
Froth flotation separation and analysis
A method of separating heavy mineral particles, such as zircon, monazites, xenotime etc., from a sample of quartz crystal powder, comprises the steps of: a. conditioning the quartz powder suspected of containing heavy mineral particles as an aqueous pulp using a froth-flotation agent; b. subjecting the conditioned pulp to froth flotation to obtain a tailing; c. combining the tailing with an aqueous solution having a density greater than that of quartz and less than that of a heavy mineral which it is desired to separate; and d. centrifuging the combination. The separated heavy mineral crystals can then be characterized using a micro-analysis technique.
