A powder supply apparatus, comprising a powder receiving device which receives powder, a hopper for storing powder that has an outlet at the bottom thereof, a screw feeder which is provided at the outlet of the hopper, has an extrusion port, and pushes the powder received from the outlet of the hopper toward the extrusion port by a screw. The powder supply apparatus also has a diaphragm pump having a suction port and a discharge port, and discharges air sucked from the suction port to the discharge port by an operation of a diaphragm. An atmospheric passage communicates the suction port of the diaphragm pump with the atmosphere. A communicating passage communicates the discharge port of the diaphragm pump with the powder receiving device. The extrusion port of the screw feeder is positioned within the atmospheric passage so as to supply the powder to the atmospheric passage.

A powder feed assembly comprises a powder hopper, a motor, an auger housing, an auger, a porous gas-permeable powder filter, a carrier gas inlet, an auger sleeve, and a powder hose. The auger housing receives a powder from the opening in the hopper floor into a powder chamber defined in the auger housing. The auger is selectively rotatable to propel the powder from the powder chamber past the distal end of the auger and into the auger sleeve. The carrier gas inlet introduces carrier gas into an inner chamber of the auger housing. The wall of the auger sleeve allows at least some of the carrier gas to flow or permeate into the internal bore of the auger sleeve to pick up and carry the propelled powder out of the auger housing. The powder hose directs the carrier gas and carried powder from the auger housing to a powder dispenser.

The powder feeding device includes a cartridge configured to store the powder in an airtight condition, and includes the feeder. The cartridge includes a port from which the powder is stored and withdrawn, and an open/close valve for opening and closing the port. The feeder includes a connection portion to which the cartridge is removably connected, a supply port configured to supply the powder in the cartridge connected to the connection portion into the feeder, and an opening/closing valve for opening and closing the supply port. The feeder is configured to insert the powder supplied from the supply port to the feeder into the nozzle, and the cartridge and the feeder are configured to form an enclosed space between the port and the supply port in response to the cartridge being connected to the connection portion.
