Provided is an aqueous coating composition which has excellent storage stability and whereby high coating film performance in terms of hardness, water resistance, etc., can be exhibited even when the aqueous coating composition is cured at a relatively low temperature. Disclosed is an aqueous coating composition which contains (A) a resin containing hydroxyl groups and carboxyl groups, (B) a blocked polyisocyanate compound, (C) a phosphate-group-containing compound, and (D) a basic compound, and which has a pH in the range of 7.0-8.2, wherein the basic compound (D) contains a specific quantity of (D1) a basic compound which has an acid dissociation constant (PKa) in the range of 7.0-8.5 and a boiling point in the range of 100-200° C.

The multilayer coating film formation method for forming a multilayer coating film on a substrate comprises the steps of: applying an undercoat paint composition (X) comprising an antioxidant (a1) to a substrate to form at least one layer of an uncured first coating film; applying a topcoat paint composition (Y) containing a carboxy-containing polymer (b1) and an epoxy-containing acrylic resin (b2) to the first coating film to form an uncured second coating film; and simultaneously heating the uncured first coating film and the uncured second coating film to cure the films.

METHOD FOR PRODUCING A MULTICOAT PAINT SYSTEM BY POSTADDITIZATION OF AT LEAST ONE BASECOAT WITH AN AQUEOUS DISPERSION COMPRISING POLYAMIDES AND/OR AMIDE WAXES
The present invention relates to a method for producing a multicoat paint system by producing a basecoat or a plurality of directly successive basecoats directly on a substrate coated with a first coat, producing a clearcoat directly on the one or the topmost of the plurality of basecoats, and subsequently jointly curing the one or the plurality of basecoats and the clearcoat. At least one of the basecoat materials is admixed, directly before application, either with an aqueous dispersion (D1) comprising a polyamide (PA) having an acid number of 15 to 60 mg KOH/g or with an aqueous dispersion (D2) comprising a polyamide (PA) and an amide wax (AW).
AQUEOUS COATING MATERIAL COMPOSITION AND METHOD FOR FORMING MULTILAYER COATING FILM
An object is to provide an aqueous coating material composition having high viscosity expression property as well as a viscosity property of decreasing viscosity with increase in shear velocity; in particular, to provide an aqueous coating material composition that can form a multilayer coating film having excellent smoothness, clarity, flip-flop property, adhesion, and water resistance; in addition, to provide a method for forming a multilayer coating film using such aqueous coating material composition, as well as a coated article that has been coated with such aqueous coating material composition. As a solution, an aqueous coating material composition is provided that contains a polyester resin (A), acrylic resin particles (B), a curing agent (C), and a coloring pigment (D), wherein the polyester resin (A) is a resin containing a trifunctional or higher polyfunctional polycarboxylic acid (a1) and a polyol (a2) as monomer components.
METHOD FOR FORMING A MULTILAYER COATING FILM
A method includes a step of applying an aqueous 2-package type first colored paint to form an uncured first colored coating film; a step of applying an aqueous 1-package type second colored paint to form an uncured second colored coating film; a step of applying a solvent-based 2-package type clear paint to form an uncured clear coating film; and a step of heating the uncured first colored coating film, the uncured second colored coating film and the uncured clear coating film to 75 to 100° C. to simultaneously cure these films. The solvent-based 2-package type clear paint contains a hydroxyl group-containing acrylic resin and a polyisocyanate compound in a ratio of 1.5 to 2.0 equivalents of isocyanate groups in the polyisocyanate compound relative to 1 equivalent of hydroxyl groups in the hydroxyl group-containing acrylic resin.

The embodiments herein relate to a non-aqueous liquid foul release coating composition and process for controlling aqueous biofouling on man-made objects, including a curable resin system (A) comprising i) a curable polymer free of fluorine atoms and having a backbone selected from a polyurethane, a polyether, a polyester, a polycarbonate or a hybrid of two or more thereof, and having at least one terminal or pendant alkoxysilyl group and ii) optionally a curing agent and/or a catalyst; and (B) a marine biocide and/or a non-curable, non-volatile compound is selected from the group consisting of fluorinated polymers, sterols and sterol derivatives, and hydrophilic-modified polysiloxane oils, wherein the coating composition is essentially free of a curable polysiloxane, and wherein the coating composition is essentially free of non-curable polysiloxanes other than non-curable hydrophilic-modified polysiloxane oils.
Method for forming multilayer coating film
Disclosed is a method for forming a multilayer coating film, including applying a first and second aqueous base coat, and a clear coat to an object, and thereafter simultaneously heating and curing the three-layer coating film. The first aqueous base coat includes a water-soluble or water-dispersible polyurethane resin having a glass transition temperature of −20° C. or below and a weight average molecular weight of 30,000 to 500,000, and a crosslinkable resin having a weight average molecular weight of 600 or more. The first aqueous base coat-coated film has a breaking strength of 2050 N/cm2 or more and a loss tangent (tan δ) at −20° C. of 0.075 or more. The migration amount of a melamine resin from the second aqueous base coat-coated film layer to the first aqueous base coat-coated film layer is within 3% by mass of a total resin solid content of the first aqueous base coat.
