After opening the pinch roll, a measuring device detects iteratively a position or a derivation in time of the position of the respective rolled product. The detected positions or the detected derivations in time of the position are provided to the control device. The control device in dependency on the positions or the derivations in time of the position updates the coefficient of friction and uses the updated coefficient of friction for determining the respective trigger time and/or the respective transport speed for the next rolled product delivered by the pinch roll.

A roll feeder is usable to intermittently feed a coiled material. The roll feeder includes a paired first roll and second roll, a meandering detector, a pressing component, and a controller. The paired first roll and second roll are disposed so as to clamp the coiled material. The paired first roll and second roll are configured to feed the coiled material in a conveyance direction. The meandering detector is configured to detect meandering of the coiled material from a specific conveyance position in a width direction perpendicular to the conveyance direction of the coiled material. The pressing component is configured to press the first roll against the coiled material being conveyed. The controller is configured to control the pressing component so as to correct the meandering based on detection by the meandering detector.

The support element (4, 6, 21, 25, 27, 29) has a flange (31) on which the axle shaft journal (3, 5, 19, 32) is flange-mounted. Such a driver roller can be easily assembled from modules, thereby simplifying maintenance and storage.

The invention relates to a method for producing a metal strip (1) in a continuous casting and rolling process, in which a slab is first cast in a casting machine and is then fed to a finishing rolling mill situated downstream in the direction of feed (F) of the strip (1), where it is rolled. According to the invention, in order to enable the recycling of scrap while achieving a compact design, the following steps are performed in the event of a planned or unplanned production interruption in the finishing rolling mill: a) cutting through the strip (1) at a point (4) between the casting machine (2) and the finishing rolling mill by means of a cutting device (5); b) feeding the part of the strip (1) that follows the cut into a strip store (6) by means of a driver (7), the driver (7) being situated downstream of the cutting device (5) in the direction of feed (F); c) cutting through the strip (1) a second time by means of the cutting device (5) and cutting the following part of the strip (1) into pieces by means of the cutting device (5); d) cutting the stored strip section into pieces, preferably of a defined length. The invention further relates to an apparatus for carrying out the method.

Coils of sheet metal and individual sheets of sheet metal having a thickness of greater than 0.074 inches are descaled in a processing line. The processing line has a cut to length portion, a conveyor, a destacker, and an apparatus for descaling the sheet metal by propelling one of grit and slurry against the sheet metal using an impeller wheel. The descaling apparatus has pinch rollers in an interior of the descaling apparatus. The processing line is configurable for processing a coil format by directing the sheet metal from the cut to length portion of the processing line through the descaling apparatus via the conveyor without processing through the destacker. The processing line is alternatively configurable for processing individual sheets of the sheet metal by directing the sheet metal from the destacker through the descaling apparatus via the conveyor without processing in the cut to length portion.
