Method for spatially arranging coils, the method comprising: providing electronic data about an initial storage state, which electronic data contains information about a respective initial diameter of the coils and a respective initial spatial storage position of the coils in a coil store; transporting a selected coil from an initial storage position to a processing machine for processing at least a portion of the sheet metal of the selected coil; sensing a reduced diameter of the selected coil after the portion of the sheet metal has been removed from the selected coil for processing by the processing machine; storing the reduced diameter of the selected coil; transporting the selected coil having the reduced diameter to a depositing storage position which, depending on the reduced diameter, is selected to differ from the initial storage position in a manner that saves storage space; and storing the depositing storage position.

A coil skid on which a hot-rolled coil 1 obtained by coiling a hot-rolled steel sheet is placed includes: at least two or more layers of a metal plate 11 and at least two or more layers of a heat insulating material 12 each stacked alternately, in which the metal plate 11 is in contact with the hot-rolled coil 1. The uneven cooling of an outer peripheral portion of the hot-rolled coil caused by the coil skid is prevented while ensuring the strength of the coil skid, to thereby inhibit the uneven hardness in the longitudinal direction of the hot-rolled coil resulting from this uneven cooling.

HOT UNCOILING OF METAL
A system for heat-treating a coil of metal can include a furnace, an unwinding system, and a quenching system. The furnace may receive the coil of metal and elevate a temperature of the metal to be within a pre-heated temperature range, such as a homogenizing temperature range or an annealing temperature range. The unwinding system may unwind at least a portion of the coil in a heated state in which the metal is within the pre-heated temperature range or before the metal has cooled past a threshold amount below the pre-heated temperature range. The quenching system may receive the unwound portion of the coil from the unwinding device and reduce a temperature of the unwound portion to a within a quenched temperature range within a predetermined amount of time.

A system for heat-treating a coil of metal can include a furnace, an unwinding system, and a quenching system. Device (10) and method for winding/unwinding rolled products (20). The device (10) is interposed between a rolling unit located upstream (102) and a rolling unit located downstream (105). The device (10) comprises a heating furnace (11) and a support structure (16) disposed outside the heating furnace (11). On the support structure (16), substantially in a diametrically opposite position, two winding/unwinding drums (18a, 18b) are assembled, positioned inside the furnace (11). The support structure (16) is selectively rotating to alternatively dispose a first of the two drums (18a or 18b) in its winding position or in its unwinding position of a reel (29). A second of the two drums (18b or 18a) consequently assuming the opposite unwinding or winding position.
