Medical device and method of manufacture yielding medical devices with consistent surface features
A medical scope device such as an endoscope is produced using a cast aluminum process including a molten casting aluminum alloy including a maximum of 0.2 - 0.3% Si and at least 5% Zn. The process includes providing an investment casting mold, casting the aluminum alloy in the mold to create a component and removing the mold from the component, post-machining the component to meet a desired specification, and after post-machining the component, performing surface finishing, such as centrifugal barrel finishing (CBF) sufficient to remove impurities on casting surfaces by 2 - 3 mils, then coating the component with a micro-crystalline aluminum anodic coating of at least 0.5 mil thickness. A medical scope and product-by-process is also provided employing such techniques.
System for impregnation of castings
A system (100) for impregnation of castings is disclosed. The system (100) comprises a basket (10) and a gantry (50). The basket (10) includes a plurality of bins (12) and a stub (14) configured thereon. The plurality of bins (12) is adapted for holding the castings thereon and is lined with a partition sheet having a plurality of perforations (12A) and plurality of slots (12B) configured thereon. The gantry (50) includes grippers (16) configured thereon. The system (100) is designed to allow partial or full loading of the basket (10) with different castings held therein in a balanced manner to be impregnated without being damaged. The system (100) prevents excess sealant consumption from basket surfaces as well as prevents sticking of the sealant on gripper's pins (15) thereby preventing frequent blockage/jamming issues.

METHOD TO PRODUCE VOID-FREE FERROUS & NON-FERROUS AEROSPACE STRUCTURAL CASTINGS
A method of treating a cast metal matrix, the method comprising steps of depositing a self-fluxing first layer of material on an outer surface-connected void of the cast metal matrix, depositing a second layer of material on the cast metal matrix thereby closing off the outer surface-connected void so that the outer surface-connected void is an effective internal void, and hot isostatic pressing the cast metal matrix so that the self-fluxing first layer facilitates healing the effective internal void and complete metallurgical bonding of the surfaces of the outer surface-connected void.
