Additive manufacturing system and method
An additive manufacturing (AM) system includes a housing defining a chamber and a build platform disposed in a lower portion of the chamber. The AM system includes an upper gas inlet disposed in a side-wall and in an upper portion of the chamber and configured to supply an upper gas flow parallel to the build platform. The AM system includes a lower gas inlet in the lower portion of the chamber, wherein the lower gas inlet includes one or more pairs of dividing walls extending from the side-wall toward the build platform and configured to guide the lower gas flow at one or more flow angles with respect to the build platform. The AM system includes at least one gas delivery mechanisms to regulate flow characteristics of the upper and lower gas flows, and includes a gas outlet to discharge the upper and lower gas flows from the chamber.
Additive manufacturing processes with closed-loop control
In some examples, an additive manufacturing process may be operated by a method that includes depositing a plurality of preliminary layers of build material over a build surface and applying thermal energy governed by closed-loop control to heat the preliminary layers. The method includes analyzing a temperature distribution across a layer of the preliminary layers to map the locations of any hot spots relative to the build surface. The method includes selecting a spray pattern to apply a cooling agent to the mapped locations.

POWDER DISTRIBUTION DEVICE AND 3D PRINTING DEVICE INCLUDING SAME
The present invention relates to a powder distribution device that can uniformly distribute powder using powder flow due to the weight of the powder itself, and a 3D printing device including the same. The powder distribution device of the present invention comprises a powder distribution unit that includes: an outer frame having an empty powder material inlet port; and at least one distribution plate disposed inside the outer frame to disperse introduced powder, wherein the powder can be broken down using the powder flow without additional power from a feed screw, a motor, or the like.
CONTROL UNIT FOR PULSED IRRADIATION IN ADDITIVE MANUFACTURE
A method for the computer-aided provision of control instructions for pulsed irradiation in the additive production of a component structure includes establishing process parameters, including a pulse frequency, a pulse width, a scan speed, and an irradiation power; defining the pulse frequency and scan speed as process constants; and determining parameter values of the pulse width and of the irradiation power from the process constants which have been defined. A corresponding computer program product, a method for bed-based additive production, and a corresponding control device are adapted for pulsed irradiation in the additive production of a component structure.

METAL DROP EJECTING THREE-DIMENSIONAL (3D) OBJECT PRINTER AND METHOD OF OPERATION FOR FORMING METAL SUPPORT STRUCTURES
A three-dimensional (3D) metal object manufacturing apparatus is equipped with two solid metal moving mechanisms that are independently operated to move two different metals into the receptacle of a vessel in a melted metal drop ejecting apparatus. The ejector is operated to form object features with melted metal drops of one of the two different metals and to form support features with melted metal drops of the other of the two different metals. The thermal expansion coefficients of the two metals are sufficiently different that the support features easily separate from the object features after the object and support features cool.
