At least one of the upper surface and the lower surface has a plurality of recesses extending between the insert hole and the corner portion. The plurality of recesses includes a first recess into which one portion of the mounting portion is inserted when the cutting insert is supported by the mounting portion, and a second recess into which another portion of the mounting portion is inserted when the cutting insert is supported by the mounting portion. The second recess has a side wall spaced apart from another portion of the mounting portion.
Lathe turning tool
A cutting insert is configured to include: a first portion having a rake face, a flank face, a cutting edge, and a face facing an insert attachment portion at an end of a tool main body; and a second portion having a side surface including at least one flat plane that is parallel to a center line of a tool or inclined at a prescribed angle to the center line. The second portion extends continuously to a region surrounded by the face of the first portion. The second portion is fitted into the tool main body to position the cutting insert and to prevent the cutting insert from rotating.
CIRCULAR CUTTING INSERT HAVING NON-CIRCULAR PERIPHERAL EDGE
A cutting tool has an insert holder with an indexable cutting insert removably secured therein. The cutting insert has upper and lower end surfaces with a peripheral side surface and a through bore extending therebetween, and a plurality of upper cutting edges formed on an upper peripheral edge. The peripheral side surface includes a non-circular upper relief surface adjacent the upper peripheral edge and a circular upper abutment surface spaced apart from the upper peripheral edge. Each upper cutting edge exhibits mirror symmetry about a bisector plane, and is non-linear in a side view. The through bore has an inner undercut formed by upper and lower bore surfaces located on opposite sides of a median plane, and a clamping member makes contact with one of the upper and lower bore surfaces at an inner contact zone located between the median plane and a seat surface of the insert holder.
Tool bit apparatus, system, and method for cutting an object
A system, a method and a cutting apparatus may use a bit to cut an object. The apparatus may have a bit connected to a cutting block on a cutting apparatus. The cutting apparatus may rotate about the object while the bit may advance into the object to cut the object. The cutting apparatus may have another bit located opposite to the bit to bevel an edge of the object. The cutting system may reduce point loads and/or provide an equalized load. The cutting system may reduce tool pressures when cutting a pipe and may provide extended tool and/or bit life.
MACHINING METHOD AND MACHINING APPARATUS
A machining apparatus machines a surface of a workpiece by feeding, relative to the workpiece, a cutting tool having a plurality of cutting edges A to D with tips of the cutting edges A to D arranged at equal intervals. The machining apparatus performs a cutting process of cutting the surface of the workpiece with the plurality of cutting edges A to D and a feeding process of feeding the cutting tool relative to the workpiece by a predetermined feed amount to form a plurality of grooves on the surface of the workpiece. The predetermined feed amount is set to a length that is not an integral multiple of the interval between the tips of cutting edges.
Cutting insert and cutting tool assembly including same
Embodiments of a cutting insert are provided. The cutting insert includes an upper surface, a lower surface, a plurality of side surfaces extending between the upper surface and the lower surface, an insert hole extending through the upper surface and the lower surface, and a corner portion provided with a cutting edge.
Threading insert having variable edge roundness
A threading insert includes a top surface, an opposite bottom surface, a side surface connecting the top surface and the bottom surface, and a first tooth. The first tooth has a first cutting edge, the first cutting edge including a first top cutting edge connecting a first leading cutting edge and a first trailing cutting edge. The first cutting edge has an edge roundness and the size of the edge roundness varies along the first cutting edge.
CUTTING INSERT, CUTTING TOOL, AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING MACHINED PRODUCT
A cutting insert in a non-limiting aspect of the present disclosure may include an upper surface, a lower surface, a lateral surface and a cutting edge. The upper surface may include a first corner and a first side. The upper surface may further include a first protrusion and a second protrusion. The first protrusion may be extended toward the first corner. The second protrusion may be located between the first corner and the first protrusion. The first protrusion may include an inclined surface. The inclined surface may be located along the first side. The inclined surface may include a first surface and a second surface. The second surface may be located further away from the first corner than the first surface. The first surface and the second surface may be individually inclined upward as going away from the first side, and having a concave shape as a whole.
Turning insert having peninsula and island protrusions, and turning tool
A turning insert has two opposite main surfaces and a peripheral surface which extends therebetween and has N side surfaces, where 2<N<9. The insert has mirror symmetry about a mid-plane and 360/N degree rotational symmetry about a central axis perpendicular to the mid-plane. The insert has two main edges which each have N main cutting edges and N corner cutting edges. Each main cutting edge has two raised edge portions and a lowered edge portion. Each main surface has N main rake surfaces and N corner rake surfaces. Each main surface further has at least N convex island protrusions and N at least partially convex peninsula protrusions, any and all island protrusions associated with a given main rake surface being located between two adjacent peninsula protrusions, each pair of adjacent peninsula protrusions having at least one island protrusion located therebetween.
CUTTING INSERT
A cutting insert is described. It has a cutting insert body with a central mounting section and at least one cutting edge. The cutting edge is wave-shaped and generally descending from an end section of the cutting edge towards a middle section of the cutting edge. Furthermore, a chip guiding recess extends substantially along the at least one cutting edge and is arranged between the cutting edge and the central mounting section. A chip breaker element is arranged in the chip guiding recess. The chip breaker element comprises a first portion having a first width and a second portion having a second width, wherein a transition between the first portion and the second portion is formed as a step.
