Cutting insert for profiling turning and cartridge for receiving a cutting insert
A cutting insert for profile turning, in particular for wheel profile turning, includes an upper surface, a lower surface, and side surfaces. At the transition from the upper surface to the side surfaces two cutting edges are formed for machining a workpiece and two further edges each having two ends. The two cutting edges are designed part-circular in shape and each extend from one end of one of the two edges to the opposite end of the other of the two edges. Also described is a cartridge for holding a cutting insert, the cartridge being mountable on a machine tool. The cartridge has a main seating surface having a plane angle () of greater than 90 to the axis of rotation (D) of the workpiece.
Mounting mechanism for a cutting insert, a cutting insert therefor and a cutting tool using said insert
A cutting tool holder of the kind in which the fastening screw (securing member) remains engaged with the tool holder seat during mounting/dismounting of the cutting insert. The seat is further formed with a support surface configured for engaging and providing support to the head portion of the securing member at least in the securing position.
CUTTING INSERT, HOLDER, AND CUTTING TOOL THAT INCLUDES CUTTING INSERT
There is provided a cutting insert used for both drilling and turning. The cutting insert includes an insert main body having a front surface and a rear surface, the outline shapes of which are parallelogram shapes, peripheral side surfaces disposed on four sides of the insert main body, cutting edges provided on respective intersecting ridge lines between the front surface and the peripheral side surface and between the rear surface and the peripheral side surface of the insert main body, and a hole provided in the insert main body to incline with respect to the front surface and the rear surface, the hole being usable for attachment.
Dynamic clamping mechanism
A cutting tool holder (10) configured for mounting thereon a cutting insert (30) to form a cutting tool (1); the cutting insert (30) has a top face (32T), a bottom face (32B), at least one side wall (32S) extending between the top face (32T) and the bottom face (32B), and an insert bore (35) extending between the top face (32T) and the bottom face (32B); the cutting tool holder (10) comprises a body (12) and a fastening member (50), the body (12) comprising an insert seat (20) having a base surface (22) and being configured for receiving therein the cutting insert (30); and a seat bore (25) having an open end at the base surface (22); the fastening member (50) defines a fastening member axis (XFM) and comprises and shank portion (52) and a head portion (51) extending therealong; the shank portion (52) is configured for being received within the seat bore (25); and the head portion (51) comprises a first clamping region, and a second clamping region axially spaced therefrom and disposed between the shank portion (52) and the first clamping region; the fastening member (50) is configured for assuming a mounting position, in which the fastening member (50) remains in engagement with the seat bore (25) in the mounting position while allowing positioning of the cutting insert (30) into the insert seat (20), and a securing position in which the first and second clamping regions are disposed so as to engage two axially-spaced regions of the cutting insert (30) thereby securing it in the insert seat (20).
Machining tool
A tool for machining has a main body, a seat formed on the main body, a fastening screw, and a cutting insert. The seat has a base surface for supporting an underside of the cutting insert and a lateral bearing surface. A bore for receiving the fastening screw is formed in the base surface, the bore has a threaded bore portion and, closer toward the base surface, a thread-free bore portion. The cutting insert is fastened to the seat such that the head portion of the fastening screw is supported on the through-hole in the cutting insert. The threaded portion of the fastening screw engages with the threaded bore and the fastening screw is elastically deflected such that a thread-free shank portion bears against the thread-free bore portion on a side remote from the lateral bearing surface and is spaced apart from the thread-free bore portion.

Clamping tool holder
A clamping tool holder includes a tool holder body and a clamp for clamping a cutting insert. The clamp causes the cutting insert to press against the bottom and the side walls of an insert-receiving pocket of the tool holder body. The tool holder body has an inclined surface sloping inward in a direction away from the insert-receiving pocket. The clamp has an inclined surface that acts as a ramp with the inclined surface of the tool holder body. When a clamp screw is tightened, a nub of the clamp engages an inside rearward surface of a mounting bore of the insert with face contact and a contact pad engages a top surface of the cutting insert. As a result, the clamp exerts a force downward and rearward force on the insert. In one aspect, the nub has a polygonal cross-sectional shape.
