COATED CUTTING TOOL
Provided is a coated cutting tool in which a surface of a substrate is coated with a hard coating film. The hard coating film includes: a layer (A) disposed on the surface of the substrate, and having a face-centered cubic lattice structure, in which the total content ratio of W and Ti is at least 85 atomic %, and which contains W as the most abundant element and Ti as the next most abundant element among metal (including metalloid) elements; and a layer (B) disposed on the layer (A) and having a face-centered cubic lattice structure, which is composed of nitrides or carbonitrides containing Al, Cr, and Si, and in which, among metal (including metalloid) elements, the Al content ratio is at least 50 atomic %, the total content ratio of Al and Cr is at least 85 atomic %, and the Si content ratio is 4 to 15 atomic %.
COATING, METHOD FOR COATING, AND COATED CUTTING TOOL
A coating includes a first base layer including a nitride of at least Al and Cr, a second base layer including a nitride of at least Al and Cr overlying the first base layer, and an outermost indicator layer overlying the second base layer. The first base layer has a positive residual compressive stress gradient. The second base layer has substantially constant residual compressive stresses. The outermost indicator layer includes a nitride of Si and Me, wherein Me is at least one of Ti, Zr, Hf, and Cr. The outermost indicator layer has residual compressive stresses that are less than the residual compressive stresses of the second base layer.
SURFACE COATED CUTTING TOOL
A surface-coated cutting tool with a hard coating layer is provided. The hard coating layer includes at least a complex nitride or carbonitride layer (2) expressed by a composition formula: (Ti.sub.1-x-yAl.sub.xMe.sub.y)(C.sub.zN.sub.1-z), Me being an element selected from Si, Zr, B, V, and Cr. The average content ratio X.sub.avg, the average content ratio Y.sub.avg, and the average content ratio Z.sub.avg satisfy 0.60≦X.sub.avg, 0.005≦Y.sub.avg≦0.10, 0≦Z.sub.avg≦0.005, and 0.605≦x.sub.avg+y.sub.avg≦0.95. There are crystal grains having a cubic structure in the crystal grains constituting the complex nitride or carbonitride layer (2). A predetermined periodic content ratio change of Ti, Al and Me exists in the crystal grains having the cubic structure.
Coated cutting tool with h-AlN and Ti1-xAlxCyNz layers
A coated cutting tool includes a substrate of cemented carbide, cermet, ceramics, steel or cubic boron nitride and a multi-layered wear resistant coating. The multi-layered wear resistant coating has a total thickness from 5 to 25 μm and includes refractory coating layers deposited by chemical vapour deposition (CVD) or moderate temperature chemical vapour deposition (MT-CVD). The multi-layered wear resistant coating has at least one pair of layers (a) and (b), with layer (b) being deposited immediately on top of layer (a). Layer (a) is a layer of aluminium nitride having hexagonal crystal structure (h-AlN) and a thickness from 10 nm to 750 nm. Layer (b) is a layer of titanium aluminium nitride or titanium aluminium carbonitride represented by the general formula Ti.sub.1-xAl.sub.xC.sub.yN.sub.z with 0.4≤x≤0.95, 0≤y≤0.10 and 0.85≤z≤1.15, having a thickness from 0.5 μm to 15 μm, and at least 90% of the Ti.sub.1-xAl.sub.xC.sub.yN.sub.z of layer (b) has a face-centered cubic (fcc) crystal structure.
CUTTING TOOL
A cutting tool comprises a rake face and a flank face, the cutting tool being composed of a substrate made of a cubic boron nitride sintered material and a coating provided on the substrate, the coating including a MAlN layer, when a cross section of the MAlN layer is subjected to an electron backscattering diffraction image analysis to determine a crystal orientation of each of the crystal grains of the M.sub.xAl.sub.1−xN and a color map is created based thereon, then on the color map, the flank face having the MAlN layer occupied in area by 45% to 75% by crystal grains of the M.sub.xAl.sub.1−xN having a (111) plane with a normal thereto extending in a direction within 25 degrees with respect to a direction in which a normal to the flank face extends, the MAlN layer having a residual stress of −2 GPa to −0.1 GPa.
Surface coated cutting tool and method for manufacturing the same
A surface coated cutting tool comprises a base material and a coating layer that coats the base material, the coating layer including an alternate layer composed of a first unit layer and a second unit layer alternately stacked, the first unit layer being composed of a nitride containing aluminum and zirconium, in the first unit layer, when the total number of metal atoms constituting the first unit layer is represented as 1, a ratio thereto of the number of atoms of the zirconium being not less than 0.65 and not more than 0.95, the second unit layer being composed of a nitride containing titanium and silicon, in the second unit layer, when the total number of metal atoms constituting the second unit layer is represented as 1, a ratio thereto of the number of atoms of the silicon being larger than 0 and not more than 0.20.
Cutting tool and method for manufacturing the same
A cutting tool includes a base material, and a coating film covering the base material in contact with the base material. The base material is a cubic boron nitride sintered material. The coating film is a ceramic. An amount of oxygen in the coating film is less than or equal to 0.040 mass percent.
Coating, method for coating, and coated cutting tool
A coating includes a first base layer including a nitride of at least Al and Cr, a second base layer including a nitride of at least Al and Cr overlying the first base layer, and an outermost indicator layer overlying the second base layer. The first base layer has a positive residual compressive stress gradient. The second base layer has substantially constant residual compressive stresses. The outermost indicator layer includes a nitride of Si and Me, wherein Me is at least one of Ti, Zr, Hf, and Cr. The outermost indicator layer has residual compressive stresses that are less than the residual compressive stresses of the second base layer.
Cubic phase refractory coatings and applications thereof
In one aspect, refractory coatings are described herein having multiple cubic phases. In some embodiments, a coating comprises a refractory layer of TiAlN deposited by PVD adhered to the substrate, the refractory layer comprising a cubic TiAlN phase and a cubic A1N phase, wherein a ratio of intensity in the X-ray diffractogram (XRD) of a (200) reflection of the cubic AlN phase to intensity of a (200) reflection of the cubic TiAlN phase, I(200)/I(200), is at least 0.5.
COATING, METHOD FOR COATING, AND COATED CUTTING TOOL
A method for coating a substrate 11 is disclosed. The method includes at least the following steps: depositing a first base layer 22 comprising a nitride of at least Al and Cr on the substrate 11 by physical vapor deposition at a gradually increasing substrate bias voltage from a first substrate bias voltage to a second substrate bias voltage; depositing a second base layer 23 comprising a nitride of at least Al and Cr on the first base layer 22 by physical vapor deposition at a constant substrate bias voltage that is greater or equal to the second substrate bias voltage; and depositing an outermost indicator layer 24 on the second base layer 23, wherein the outermost indicator layer 24 comprises a nitride of Si and Me, wherein Me is at least one of Ti, Zr, Hf, and Cr, wherein the outermost indicator layer 24 is deposited by physical vapor deposition at a substrate bias voltage that is less than the constant substrate bias voltage applied during deposition of the second base layer 23.
