There is provided a drill bit for cutting tiles comprising a hollow body portion bearing an annular cutting surface at one end and a wax plug located within the hollow body portion, wherein an internal wall of the hollow body portion has at least one region of reduced thickness so as to provide one or more channels along which melted wax can flow to reach cutting surface. The channels can be provided by an offset central passage within body portion, or as elongate grooves around the internal wall of the hollow body portion. The channels can be helical grooves.

Strength testing of a flatwise material coupon

One example of the present disclosure relates to a coupon. The coupon includes a first surface with a first circular channel and a second surface opposite and parallel to the first surface. The second surface is spaced a distance D0 from the first surface and includes a second circular channel concentric with the first circular channel. The coupon also includes a toroidal portion between the first circular channel and the second circular channel. The toroidal portion includes a rectangular sectional portion.

Hole-saw

Provided is a mining bit and a method for manufacturing the same wherein a plurality of cutting tips are provided in such a manner as to be easily made with a high concentration of abrasive particles, rounded on a cutting surface to induce optimal abrasion, and have a shape of an arch having the same width and rounded on inner and outer surfaces thereof. The mining bit includes: the layers have a shape of an arch with flat surfaces in such a manner as to be laminated onto each other in a horizontal direction with respect to a cutting surface of each cutting tip, and a distance (D2) between the abrasive particles on the adjacent layers is less than a distance (D1) between the abrasive particles on each layer.

An insert based on an aspect includes a first face, a second face located opposite to the first face, a third face located between the first face and the second face, and a cutting edge located on an intersection of the first face and the third face. The first face includes a first region inclined so as be close to the second face as being separated away from the cutting edge. A virtual straight line orthogonal to the cutting edge is set as a first virtual straight line in a front view of the first face. A ten-point average of roughness the first region in a direction along the first virtual straight line is expressed by Rz1a and a ten-point average of roughness of the first region in a direction along the cutting edge is expressed by Rz1b, and Rz1a is larger than Rz1b.

NANOSTRUCTURED METALLIC LAYER ON CARBIDE FOR IMPROVED COATING ADHESION
20200238390 · 2020-07-30 ·

A coating for carbide substrates employs a nanostructured coating in conjunction with a non-nanostructured coating. The nanostructured coating is produced by the addition of a refining agent flow, particular hydrogen chloride gas, during deposition, and may be produced as multiple individual titanium and titanium-based nanostructured layers varying functional materials in a series. The combination of a nanostructured coating and non-nanostructured coating is believed to produce a cutting tool insert that exhibits longer life. Pre-treating the substrate with a mixture of compressed air and abrasive medium prior to coating the substrate and post-treating the coated substrate with a mixture of water and abrasive medium after the coating process is believed to further enhance the wear resistance and usage life of the cutting tool.

Core drill bit

A core drill bit can include a first region and a second region. The first region can include abrasive particles in a first bond matrix, and the second region can include abrasive particles in a second bond matrix. The first region is connected to the second region. A composition of the first bond matrix can be different from a composition of the second matrix. In a particular embodiment, the first bond matric can include a Co-containing material.

Cutting tool

A cutting tool comprises a tool body having a first end and a second end, and a longitudinal axis extending between the first end and the second end. The first end comprises two or more cutting portions, with each of the cutting portions comprising a cutting edge and a flank surface. Each cutting edge extends radially outwardly from a centre region of the first end to a perimetral edge of the first end, with the cutting edge being angled relative to the longitudinal axis. Each flank surface extends circumferentially from the cutting edge. Each of at least two of the two or more flank surfaces comprises an abrasive portion extending over at least a part of the respective flank surface and each abrasive portion comprises a plurality of abrasive features.
