An automatic lathe includes a front main spindle holding a workpiece and a turret including a peripheral surface, the peripheral surface being divided into a plurality of turret surfaces, tools being mounted on the turret surfaces, the turret machining the workpiece with any of the tools selected by turning about a Z axis, wherein at least one turret surface of the turret surfaces of the turret has a distance from the Z axis shorter than that of the other turret surfaces.

Machine tool

A machine tool (1) removes chips adhering to a working portion of a tool (T). More specifically, a fluid injecting nozzle (23, 24) injects a fluid toward the tool (T) enclosed in an enclosure (22). A controller (15) controls a position of the tool (T) within the enclosure (22), and further controls operation of the fluid injecting nozzle (23, 24) such that the fluid is injected when the tool (T) is within the enclosure (22).

A machine tool configured to attach multiple tools to a turret is provided to improve the efficiency of a tool exchanging operation and, thus, also the production efficiency. A control device determines whether an expired tool, which is a tool needs to be exchanged, is present among the tools held by the turret. The control device sets a tool exchanging position, which is a position within the movable range of a head section and is a position where the expired tool is exchanged with a new tool. If the control device determines that an expired tool is present, the control device causes a head section driving device to move the head and rotate the turret to position the expired tool at the tool exchanging position.

A technology capable of improving machining performance of a lathe is provided. A first attaching position and a second attaching position are adjacent to each other in a tool unit attaching direction perpendicular to a spindle axis direction. A second tool unit attached to the second attaching position is of a shape avoiding an area that a spindle possibly occupies relatively with respect to a first tool unit working on the workpiece. When a rotary tool unit is attached to one of the first attaching position and the second attaching position, a machining point of the second tool unit working on the workpiece is deviated to the side of the spindle in the spindle axis direction from the rotational center of the rotary tool unit across the turret surface.

A technology capable of downsizing the lathe is provided. The lathe comprises a spindle which rotates a workpiece on a spindle axis, a turret head, and a tool unit switching driving unit. The turret head has a plurality of turret surfaces to which a tool unit is radially attached around an indexing axis. To at least part of the turret surfaces, the tool unit is attached in a plurality of attaching positions provided in an indexing axis direction along the indexing axis. The tool unit switching driving unit rotates the turret head on the indexing axis and moves the turret head in the indexing axis direction to switch the tool units for use to machine the workpiece.

TURNING DEVICE, USE OF A HYDROSTATIC BEARING AND METHOD FOR TURNING A WORKPIECE

For a turning machine (1) that can be used for rotary turning, the tool holder (20) is hydrostatically mounted. A method corresponding to this is described, and it is provided to use a hydrostatic bearing (8, 9) for the damping of mechanical vibrations of a tool holder (20) and/or for the permanent mounting of a tool holder (20) of a turning machine (1).

Vertical lathe

A vertical lathe, including: a headstock provided on the upper side of a base so as to be capable of moving in the lateral direction and the vertical direction; a main spindle rotatably supported by the headstock; a workpiece chuck provided at the lower end section of the main spindle; a turret support stand provided so as to be capable of moving in the longitudinal direction orthogonal to the lateral direction and the vertical direction; an actuator for moving the turret support stand in the longitudinal direction; a turret having tool mounting parts provided at a plurality of circumferential positions, the turret being supported by the turret support stand so as to enable turn-indexing about the axis in the longitudinal direction; and a plurality of processing tools attached at each of the tool mounting parts so as to be set apart from each other in the longitudinal direction.

Machine Tool

Provided is a machine tool (1) capable of effectively removing machining chips adhering to a portion excluding a held portion and including a machining working portion of a tool (T). The machine tool (1) includes a tool holding unit (6) holding the tool (T), a feed mechanism (10, 11, 12) moving the tool holding unit (6) in at least one axis direction, an enclosure (22) provided within an operating area of the tool (T), having an opening, and having an interior area into which a portion of the tool (T) exposed outside from the tool holding unit (6) can be partially or entirely enclosed through the opening, a fluid injecting nozzle (23, 24) provided on at least one of the tool holding unit (6) and the enclosure (22) and injecting a fluid toward the tool (T) enclosed in the enclosure (22), and a controller (15) controlling the feed mechanism (10, 11, 12) such that the tool (T) is enclosed into the enclosure (22) by moving the tool holding unit (6), and controlling an injecting operation of the fluid injecting nozzle (23, 24) such that the fluid is injected in a state where the tool (T) is enclosed in the enclosure (22).
