The first inclined surface is located away from the first plane.
MILLING INSERT AND A SIDE AND FACE MILLING TOOL
A milling insert for a side and face milling tool includes an upper side defining an upper extension plane, a lower side defining a lower extension plane, and a side surface extending between the upper and the lower sides around a periphery of the insert that includes a main radial clearance surface, two opposite axial clearance surfaces and two corner clearance surfaces. At least one cutting edge is formed in a transition between the upper and the side surfaces, wherein each cutting edge includes a main cutting edge extending above the main radial clearance surface and two corner cutting edges extending above the corner clearance surfaces on opposite sides of the main cutting edge. The main cutting edge slopes downward toward a midpoint of the main cutting edge and the main cutting edge and the main radial clearance surface slope outward from the corner cutting edges toward the midpoint.
TOOL BODY AND CUTTING TOOL
The present invention relates to a tool body provided with at least one insert seat. The insert seat comprises a bottom wall surface and a side wall surface. The side wall surface comprises a first side wall surface and a second side wall surface. The first side wall surface comprises at least two surface portions. The first surface portion is a curved surface in a recessed shape, and the second surface portion is a curved surface in a recessed shape having a greater curvature radius than that of the first surface portion or a flat surface. The two surface portions both come into contact with a cutting insert.
Double-sided, trigon cutting insert with rounded minor cutting edge and cutting tool therefor
A double-sided, trigon cutting insert has three three major cutting edges formed at an intersection between a first planar side surface portion and first and second surfaces, and three minor cutting edges formed at an intersection between a second planar side surface portion and first and second surfaces. A planar rake surface extends radially inward and downward from each major cutting edge, and a rounded rake surface extends radially inward and downward from each minor cutting edge. An insert-receiving pocket of a cutting tool includes a planar bottom support surface, a first planar side support surface, a second planar side support surface, and a third planar side support surface. Each rounded rake surface is formed with a radius, R, that causes only a high point of each minor cutting edge to contact a workpiece during a machining operation.
Cutting insert and indexable rotary cutting tool
A cutting insert is suitable for 90° shoulder milling. The cutting insert includes two end surfaces: first and second end surfaces; a peripheral side surface extending therebetween; and a cutting edge formed at an intersecting ridge portion between the first end surface and the peripheral side surface. The cutting edge is formed so that the first end surface functions as a rake face and a part of the peripheral side surface functions as a flank. A side surface portion of the peripheral side surface adjacent to at least a part of the cutting edge includes a first flank portion adjacent to the cutting edge, a second flank portion, a third flank portion, and a fourth flank portion in this order from the first end surface side toward the second end surface side.
CUTTING INSERT HAVING A VARIABLE-WIDTH LAND ASSOCIATED WITH GROOVES FORMED IN THE UPPER AND SIDE SURFACES AND INDEXABLE CUTTING TOOL
A cutting insert (1) has a first end surface (2); a second end surface (3) opposing the first end surface; and a peripheral side surface (4) connecting the first and second end surfaces. A cutting edge (6) extends along an intersecting edge between the first end surface and the peripheral side surface. A land (20) is formed in the first end surface and extends along the cutting edge. At least one groove (18) is formed in the peripheral side surface, each groove forming an opening in the first end surface and separating the cutting edge into a plurality of portions. In a plan view of the first end surface, a portion of the land adjacent to an end area (S) of the groove, has a greater width than a width of a portion of the land which is distant from the groove.
