Whirling tool

A whirling tool configured to machine a workpiece. The whirling tool includes a plurality of cutting inserts, a cutting insert carrier, and a coolant channel which is arranged in the cutting insert carrier. The cutting insert carrier includes a plurality of cutting insert receptacles for receiving and releasably fastening respectively one of the cutting inserts. The cutting insert receptacles are arranged distributed in the circumferential direction over the cutting insert carrier. The cutting insert carrier further includes a through-opening which extends along a central axis of the cutting insert carrier, and through which the workpiece can be passed during the machining. The cutting inserts protrude into the through-opening, and the coolant channel extends between an inlet opening and an outlet opening, wherein the outlet opening leads into the through-opening and/or is oriented towards the through-opening.

A trigonal cutting insert for a shoulder milling tool includes an upper side, an opposite lower side and a peripheral side surface. A plurality of indexable cutting edges extend along corners of the cutting insert, each cutting edge having a main cutting edge, a corner cutting edge, and a surface-wiping secondary cutting edge. The upper side includes a recessed central surface, and a plurality of positively inclined rake surfaces having a main rake surface portion, a corner rake surface portion, and a secondary rake surface portion. A concave indentation is formed in the corner rake surface portion and in at least an initial part of the main rake surface portion adjacent to the corner rake surface portion, wherein the concave indentation has an elongated shape.

Indexable tangential railway wheel milling inserts and cutting tool holders

Railway wheel milling tool system including a railway wheel truing cutters and tangential railway wheel milling inserts are disclosed. The tangential milling inserts have at least four indexable cutting edges, each with a central wiper cutting edge segment between two convex cutting edge segments. The milling inserts may allow both the flat portion and curved portion of a railway wheel to be machined with an improved surface finish. The railway wheel truing cutters comprise a plurality of insert pockets structured and arranged to receive the tangential railway wheel milling inserts.

An insert may include a first surface, a second surface, a ridge line located at an intersection of the first surface and the second surface. The first surface may include a first corner, a first side and a second side. The ridge line may include a corner cutting edge located on the first corner, a first cutting edge located on the first side, and a second cutting edge located on the second side. The first surface may further include a first region located from the first cutting edge toward a midportion of the first surface, a second region located from the second cutting edge toward the midportion of the first surface, and a concave part located on at least one of the first region and the second region.

The insert has a polygonal shape and includes a cutting edge portion on at least one side of the polygonal shape. The cutting edge portion includes a rake face having a convex formed on one of opposite surfaces in the thickness direction a flank face having a concave formed on a surface intersecting with the one surface in the thickness direction and a concave cutting edge that is formed between the rake face and the flank face.

CUTTING INSERT, CUTTING TOOL, AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING MACHINED PRODUCT

A cutting insert includes a base body and a coating layer, and also includes a rake surface, a flank surface, and a cutting edge located along an intersecting ridge therebetween. The rake surface includes an outer peripheral part and a middle part protruded relative to the outer peripheral part. The middle part includes a constraining surface. The outer peripheral part includes a first breaker part, a second breaker part, and the third breaker part adjacent to the constraining surface. The constraining surface is configured by the base body and the coating layer does not exist at the constraining surface. A skewness Rsk of a roughness curve at the constraining surface is −1.5 μm to −0.5 μm. A skewness Rsk at the third breaker part is −0.2 μm or less. The skewness Rsk at the constraining surface is smaller than the skewness Rsk at the third breaker part.

Insert

An insert may include a first surface, a second surface, a ridge line located at an intersection of the first surface and the second surface. The first surface may include a first corner, a first side and a second side. The ridge line may include a corner cutting edge located on the first corner, a first cutting edge located on the first side, and a second cutting edge located on the second side. The first surface may further include a first region located from the first cutting edge toward a midportion of the first surface, a second region located from the second cutting edge toward the midportion of the first surface, and a concave part located on at least one of the first region and the second region.

Machining system and cutting insert and methods

There is provided a machining assembly and cutting insert for machining metal or like workpieces, wherein the cutting insert body has a cutting end. The cutting end comprises at least one cutting edge and at least one cutting lip formed adjacent the at least one cutting edge. The at least one cutting lip includes at least one cutting protrusion and associated chip cutting edge to split the chip formed by the at least one cutting edge, for producing chips during machining which are of a width that is sufficiently reduced to allow proper evacuation or removal.

A wiper insert includes three first corner portions and three second corner portions which are alternately aligned on a polygonal surface in an insert circumferential direction. A cutting edge has a first cutting edge that performs a finishing operation on a work material, and a second cutting edge. An outer peripheral surface has a first flank face, a second flank face, and a first restraint surface disposed outward from the second cutting edge in an insert radial direction. When viewed in an insert axial direction, an insert shape is rotationally symmetrical by 180° around a rotation center axis passing through the second corner portion adjacent to a first side of a predetermined first corner portion in the insert circumferential direction and an insert center axis.
