A cutting insert has a first end surface and a second end surface which are opposed to each other. The first end surface has at least one apex and two side edges which extend so as to sandwich the apex. At least part of the two side edges serves as a cutting edge. The first end surface has a rake surface which is connected to the cutting edge. As viewed in a cross-section which intersects with the two side edges and which is orthogonal to the second end surface, the rake surface is inclined relative to the second end surface.

An indexable cutting insert for milling of a root between two cogs of a cog wheel includes a top surface forming a chip surface, a bottom surface, a side surface forming a clearance surface, a first and a second curved cutting edge formed at an intersection between the top surface and the side surface for milling of the root between the two cogs. The bottom surface includes a first planar abutment section and a second planar abutment section. A first groove extends in the first abutment section and a second groove extends in the second abutment section, each along an axis parallel to a virtual line connecting the apexes of the first and second cutting edges. A first and a second stop section extend across the virtual line, wherein the first stop section protrudes above the first abutment section and the second stop section protrudes above the second abutment section.

Wedge clamp and insert cartridge for cutting tool

A cutting tool includes a pocket with a top wall, a bottom wall, a side wall and a rear wall. The cutting tool has an insert cartridge and a wedge clamp. The threaded member exerts a force vector in a radial direction when threaded into the wedge clamp to place the cutting tool in a locked condition, and the wedge clamp exerts a force vector into the body of the cutting tool radially inward of an adjacent pocket, thereby reducing deflection of the adjacent pocket when the cutting tool is placed in the locked condition.
