As the counterweight moves through a rearward half of the path, the counterweight generally moves in an upward direction, and as the counterweight moves through a forward half of the path, the counterweight generally moves in a downward direction.

An actuator is coupled to the handpiece body to selectively oscillate the carrier relative to the handpiece body such that the retainer and the saw blade pivot back and forth about the pivot axis within the sagittal plane. An ultrasonic transducer is operatively attached to the handpiece body to selectively generate ultrasonic energy to resonate the saw blade such that the teeth at the distal blade end reciprocate proximally and distally within the sagittal plane.

The body housing allows air drawn through the inlet and having cooled the brushless motor to be divided into first and second outlet blows respectively cooling the power transmission mechanism and discharged through the first outlet, and cooling the controller and discharged through the second outlet.

The control circuit switches a preset control either to be enabled or disabled. During the preset control being enabled, the control circuit (i) varies an actual rotational speed of the motor in accordance with an actual moved distance of the manual switch and (ii) increases the actual rotational speed in response to a load being imposed on the motor. During the preset control being disabled, the control circuit varies the actual rotational speed in accordance with the actual moved distance of the manual switch in a manner at least partly distinctive from a variation in the actual rotational speed during the preset control being enabled.

Reciprocating saw

A reciprocating saw includes a housing, a motor, and a drive mechanism. The drive mechanism includes a driven gear that is rotated by the motor. The driven gear is vertically-oriented within the housing. The drive mechanism also includes a drive arm coupled to the driven gear to translate rotary motion of the driven gear into reciprocating motion, and an output shaft coupled to the drive arm to reciprocate relative to the housing along a spindle axis through a cutting stroke and a return stroke. The drive mechanism further includes a counterweight coupled to the driven gear and rotating with the driven gear through a path and in a same direction. As the counterweight moves through a rearward half of the path, the counterweight generally moves in an upward direction, and as the counterweight moves through a forward half of the path, the counterweight generally moves in a downward direction.
