METHODS OF FORMING A RAZOR BLADE ASSEMBLY
A method of joining a razor blade to a blade support to form a razor blade assembly, the method including: directing a laser beam having an adjustable power output at an upper surface of the razor blade; and while advancing the laser beam along the razor blade: a) applying the laser beam at a first power output to the razor blade; b) reducing the first power output of the laser beam to a second power output; and c) applying the laser beam at the second power output to the razor to form a weld area joining the razor blade to the blade support. The weld area may be elongated and may include (i) a ratio of depth:width that is greater than about 2:1, and/or (ii) a ratio of length:width that is greater than about 5:1.
Melt Pool Monitoring System and Method for Detecting Errors in an Additive Manufacturing Process
A system and method of monitoring a powder-bed additive manufacturing process is provided where a layer of additive powder is fused using an energy source and electromagnetic emission signals are measured by a melt pool monitoring system to monitor the print process. The measured emission signals are analyzed to identify outlier emissions and clusters of outliers are identified by assessing the spatial proximity of the outlier emissions, e.g., using clustering algorithms, spatial control charts, etc. An alert may be provided or a process adjustment may be made when a cluster is identified or when a magnitude of a cluster exceeds a predetermined cluster threshold.
PREDICTION AND CONTROL OF PRODUCT SHAPE QUALITY IN WIRE AND ARC ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING THROUGH MACHINE LEARNING
A generalized additive modeling approach to separate global geometric shape deformation from surface roughness is provided. Under this statistical framework, tensor product basis expansion is adopted to learn both the low-order shape deformation and high-order roughness patterns. The established predictive model enables the optimal geometric compensation for product redesign to reduce shape deformation from the target geometry without altering process parameters. Experimental validation on WAAM manufactured cylindrical walls of various radi shows the effectiveness of the proposed framework.
Methods and systems using a smart torch with positional tracking in robotic welding
A system and method of electric arc welding that includes a welding apparatus having an electric arc welder torch with sensors to determine the absolute position of the torch tip and the relative position of the torch tip to the weld joint during automatic welding. Combining absolute and relative positional data can be used to adjust the path of the robot during automated or robotic welding in response to variations in the weld joint.
Method and Device for Predicting and/or Reducing the Deformation of a Multipart Assembly
An apparatus for predicting and/or reducing a deformation of an assembly brought about during production of a weld seam that connects a first component and a second component of the assembly includes a device that is configured to determine and/or provide a finite element (FE) model of the assembly where the FE model includes a set of FEs for the weld seam and a set of FEs for the first component and the second component. The device is further configured to induce a spatial contraction of the set of FEs for the weld seam, determine an effect of the spatial contraction on the set of FEs for the first component and/or the second component, and predict a spatial deformation of the first component and/or of the second component on a basis of the effect on the set of FEs for the first component and/or the second component.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING WORKPIECE PARTS FROM A PLATE-SHAPED WORKPIECE, DATA PROCESSING PROGRAM AND PROCESSING MACHINE FOR PRODUCING THE WORKPIECE PARTS
A method for producing workpiece parts from a plate-shaped workpiece in a processing machine or laser processing machine includes positioning and holding the workpiece on a workpiece support by clamping devices. A plurality of workpiece parts are cut out of the workpiece with a process beam. The process beam is moved relative to the workpiece support by a processing head and/or the workpiece is moved relative to the workpiece support by the clamping devices. A cutting process for processing the workpiece to produce the workpiece parts is interrupted at least once by a relaxation step for the workpiece. During the relaxation step at least one clamping device is released to relax the workpiece. The at least one clamping device is closed following the relaxation and before continuing the cutting process. A data processing program and a processing machine for producing the workpiece parts are also provided.
