A welding tool includes a tool support and a welding torch coupled to the tool support. The welding tool is configured to rotate relative to the tool support about a welding axis. A locating device is coupled to the tool support and is movable between a retracted position and an extended position. In the extended position, the locating device extends toward the welding axis. The locating device includes a recess at an end of the locating device. The recess is configured such that, when a predetermined object to be welded (such as an anchor rod) is positioned at least partially within the recess of the locating device in the extended position, the welding axis passes through the object to be welded.

Apparatus for repairing a metal sheet method of operating the same, and method of repairing a metal sheet

An apparatus for repairing a metal sheet and method of operating the same are provided. The apparatus includes: a base unit including: a frame and an attachment feature on the frame, a cutting unit removably attachable to the base unit to cut out a damaged portion of the metal sheet, and a welding unit removably attachable to the base unit. The cutting unit includes: a cutting arm including a cutting blade, and a motor for operating the cutting arm. The welding unit includes: a fixed platform, a weld movement motor for moving a moveable platform on the fixed platform, and a welding assembly, attached to the moveable platform, to automatically weld a replacement piece to the metal sheet. In operation, the frame is continuously attached to the metal sheet during cutting of the damaged portion and welding of the replacement piece, providing a stable and repeatable frame of reference.

Mobile welding system

A mobile welding system that does not rely exclusively on a track to define the path of the welder. One embodiment includes a mobile welder adapted to move along a work piece. The mobile welder includes a chassis, including a welding implement, and a travel assembly configured to support the chassis over a portion of the work piece. The mobile welder also includes a motor assembly configured to selectively cause the chassis to move relative to the work piece. The mobile welder further includes a chassis holder, having a magnet assembly, configured to provide a force holding the chassis a selected distance from the work piece. The magnet assembly includes a magnet rotatably mounted between a ferrous material and a non-ferrous material to selectively control application of a magnetic field toward the work piece.
