ARC WELDING CONTROL METHOD
A method of controlling arc welding with a consumable electrode includes repeating the following periods in sequence: a short-circuit welding period to perform short-circuit arc welding; a pulse welding period to perform pulse welding; and a cooling period in which the welding current output is zero.
Wire feedstock control during additive manufacturing
An additive manufacturing system includes an energy source and a material delivery device. The energy source is configured to direct an energy beam toward a component to form a melt pool. The material delivery device is configured to feed a wire toward the melt pool to deposit material on the component. In some examples, the material delivery device is configured to discharge a current to the wire to disengage the wire from the melt pool. In some examples, the material delivery device is configured to measure an arc voltage between the wire and the component.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS TO PROVIDE WELDING-TYPE ARC STARTING AND STABILIZATION WITH REDUCED OPEN CIRCUIT VOLTAGE
Systems and methods to provide welding-type arc starting and stabilization with reduced open circuit voltage are disclosed. An example welding-type power supply includes: power conversion circuitry configured to convert input power to welding-type power; and control circuitry configured to: control the power conversion circuitry to output a voltage pulse at a first voltage; determine whether the power conversion circuitry outputs current during the voltage pulse; in response to determining that there is less than a threshold output current during the voltage pulse, control the power conversion circuitry to turn off an output or output a second voltage that is less than the first voltage; and in response to determining that the power conversion circuitry outputs at least the threshold output current during the voltage pulse, control the power conversion circuitry to output the welding-type power.
System and method for true electrode speed
The invention described herein generally pertains to a system and method related to detecting a change in height during a welding operation and adjusting one or more welding parameters based on such detected change in height. In particular, a change in a height can be related to two or more revolutions on the workpiece in which the change is due to material being deposited onto the workpiece from the welding operation. Since the material deposited onto the workpiece changes the height of the electrode to the workpiece, one or more welding parameters can be adjusted for compensation. Specifically, an electrode speed can be adjusted to compensate for a change in the height, wherein the electrode speed is a rate that the electrode moves adjacent to the workpiece.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS PROVIDING LOCATION FEEDBACK FOR ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING
A system and method to correct for height error during a robotic welding additive manufacturing process. One or both of a welding output current and a wire feed speed are sampled during a robotic welding additive manufacturing process when creating a current weld layer. A plurality of instantaneous contact tip-to-work distances (CTWD's) are determined based on at least one or both of the welding output current and the wire feed speed. An average CTWD is determined based on the plurality of instantaneous CTWD's. A correction factor is generated, based on at least the average CTWD, which is used to compensate for any error in height of the current weld layer.
