Autonomous conveyor system
Disclosed herein is a conveyor system comprising a plurality of work piece carriers, each presenting a machine readable and writable tag and being adapted for supporting at least one work piece during transportation. The system further comprises distribution highway conveyors each in the form of an endless conveyor adapted for transporting and circulating the work piece carriers, flow balancing conveyors and operation unit conveyors. Control of the system is achieved by autonomous switch control devices arranged at each intersection between conveyors to control the flow of the work piece carriers at the respective intersection.

A transportation system for production, packaging, filling, assembly and/or processing installation, comprising a carrier system having a conveying section and having a multiplicity of carrier elements, a first drive device, wherein the carrier elements have in each case one coupling mechanism by which the carrier elements are capable of being coupled to the first drive device for a movement along the conveying section, at least one second drive device, wherein the carrier elements can be coupled to the at least one second drive device by the coupling mechanism for a movement along the conveying section, and at least one switching mechanism that is positioned on the conveying section, wherein the coupling mechanisms of the carrier elements are capable of being coupled selectively to one of the drive devices by the at least one switching mechanism for a movement along the conveying section.
AUTONOMOUS CONVEYOR SYSTEM
The present disclosure provides a conveyor system, comprising a plurality of work piece carriers (WPC), each presenting a machine readable and writable tag (T) and being adapted for supporting at least one work piece during transportation. The system further comprises distribution highway conveyors (DHC1, DHC2) each in the form of an endless conveyor adapted for transporting and circulating said work piece carriers (WPC), flow balancing conveyors (FBC) and operation unit conveyors (OUC1, OUC2, OUC3, OUC4). Control of the system is achieved by autonomous switch control devices (11a, 11b, 11c, 11d; 13a, 13b) arranged at each intersection between conveyors to control the flow of the work piece carriers (WPC) at the respective intersection.

The invention relates to a transportation system (1) for an installation, in particular a production, packaging, filling, assembly and/or processing installation, comprising a carrier system (2) having a conveying section and having a multiplicity of carrier elements (21), a first drive device (3), wherein the carrier elements (21) have in each case one coupling mechanism by means of which the carrier elements (21) for a movement along the conveying section are capable of being coupled to the first drive device (3), at least one second drive device (4), wherein the carrier elements (21) by means of the coupling mechanism for a movement along the conveying section are capable of being coupled to the at least one second drive device (4), and at least one switching mechanism (5) that is positioned on the conveying section, wherein the coupling mechanisms of the carrier elements (21) by means of the at least one switching mechanism (5) for a movement along the conveying section are capable of being coupled selectively to one of the drive devices (3, 4). The invention furthermore relates to an installation, in particular a production, packaging, filling, assembly and/or processing installation having a transportation system. The invention furthermore relates to a method for transporting carrier elements in an installation, in particular a production, packaging, filling, assembly and/or processing installation.
