Bundle Breaker with Scrap Chute
A bundle breaker has downstream and upstream breaking supports, first and second platens located over the respective breaking supports and first and second actuators to move the platens to selectively clamp portions of a log against the breaking supports. A third actuator shifts the downstream breaking support relative to the upstream breaking support from a first position to a second position to break a bundle from the log. A scrap chute is mounted below a junction of the upstream and downstream breaking support to catch scrap material falling between the upstream support and the downstream breaking support. Each time the downstream breaking conveyor is shifted to the second position, scrap in the chute is jolted and is shifted toward a discharge opening of the scrap chute and, optionally, into a scrap drawer.
DEVICE AND METHOD FOR SIMULTANEOUS SQUARE FOLDING OF THE SPINE AND TRIMMING OF BOOKLETS
A post-processing device (1) for simultaneously performing both square folding and trimming of a booklet (3), wherein the device (1) comprises a square folding assembly (8) and a cutting assembly (5) at least one of which is movably attached to the post-processing device (1), and a clamping assembly (17) for holding the booklet (3) static during operation of the square folding assembly (8) and the cutting assembly (5). Also, a method of operating such a device (1).
Method For Contour Punching An Output Stack And Punching Device
A method for contour punching an output stack consisting of sheet-like material and a punching device for carrying out the method Includes providing at least two punching procedures. A large proportion of an unprinted region is separated from a printed region in a first punching procedure and a first punching waste produced thereby is collected separately, whereby the quantity of the second punching waste which is formed in a second punching procedure is significantly less than if only a single punching procedure were to be carried out. By collecting the first punching waste and the second punching waste separately, it is possible to provide this waste in each case for appropriate disposal or appropriate recycling.
Trimmer
A trimmer comprises a trim knife for trimming the bound material, a blade receiving portion 19 for receiving a blade edge of the trim knife, and an adjustment mechanism 60 configured to adjust a position of the blade receiving portion 19 in such a manner that each of one side 191 and other side 192 of the blade receiving portion 19 moves by not only a same amount but also a different amount and in directions toward and away from the blade edge of the trim knife. Each of positions of the one side 191 and the other side 192 of the blade receiving portion 19 can be adjusted.
Device for carrying out cutting operations on open format edges of a printed product
A device for carrying out cutting operations on at least one open format edge of a printed product, includes: a transport unit configured to transfer the printed product along a guide path from a first cutting location to a second cutting location and from the second cutting location to a third cutting location for an edge-related cutting operation, the transport unit having at least one gripper configured to grip the printed product by its spine to convey the printed product from one cutting location to the next in a suspended manner, and at at least one cutting location, at least one cutting tool configured to perform the edge-related cutting operation comprising a first edge-related cutting operation and optionally at least one second subsequent edge-related cutting operation.
BUNDLE BREAKER HAVING PASS THROUGH SECTION
A bundle breaker includes an upstream breaking section and a downstream breaking section and a platen over each breaking section for clamping a log to the respective breaking section. First and second actuators are configured to move the first and second platens, and a third actuator is configured to move the downstream breaking section relative to the upstream breaking section to break a bundle from a log. An input conveyor is located at the input end of the upstream breaking section and has a first portion that is foldable relative to a second portion to create a gap in the bundle breaker through which a worker can pass.
BUNDLE BREAKER PLATEN HAVING AIR BLADDERS AND BUNDLE BREAKER INCLUDING THE PLATEN
A bundle breaker includes upstream and downstream breaking supports, platens over the breaking supports and actuators for moving the platens toward and away from the breaking supports. Each of the platens includes a plurality of air bladders each having a bottom contact surface facing one of the breaking supports. The actuators move the platens to selectively clamp a log between the bottom contact surfaces of the air bladders and the breaking supports. A third actuator shifts an input end of the downstream breaking support relative to an output end of the upstream breaking support from a first position to a second position to break a first portion of the log from a second portion of the log.
BUNDLE BREAKER WITH SERVO-MOTOR CONTROL
A bundle breaker has upstream and downstream breaking supports each having an input end and an output end. A first platen is located above the upstream breaking support, and a second platen is located above the downstream breaking support, and each platen has an actuator for moving the respective platen toward and away from the breaking supports to selectively clamp a log between the platens and the breaking supports. A third actuator is configured to apply a shifting force to the downstream breaking support to shift the input end of the downstream breaking support relative to the output end of the upstream breaking support from a first position toward a second position to break the second portion of the log from the first portion of the log. The first actuator and/or the second actuator and/or the third actuator includes at least one servo motor.
ADJUSTABLE BREAK BUNDLE BREAKER
A bundle breaker has upstream and downstream breaking supports and first and second platens located above the breaking supports that are configured to be raised and lowered by actuators to selectively clamp a log between the platens and the breaking supports. A third actuator applies a shifting force to the downstream breaking support to shift an input end of the downstream breaking support relative to an output end of the upstream breaking support to break a second portion of the log from a first portion of the log. A controller controls the first actuator and the second actuator and the third actuator. Also, the controller is configured to stop or reduce the application of the shifting force in response to a determination that the second portion of the log has broken off the first portion of the log.
