Method and calculating unit for curve sawing of a block in a cutting direction with at least a first circular saw blade. The method comprises determining a radius of the curve sawing, by measuring the curvature of the block in the direction of cutting; calculating a vertical inclination angle of the first circular saw blade in a vertical plane relative to the cutting direction in the block, based on the determined radius of the curve sawing; inclining the first circular saw blade with the calculated vertical inclination angle; and sawing the block in the cutting direction with the inclined first circular saw blade along the determined radius of the curve sawing.

Log cutter
11478952 · 2022-10-25 ·

A sawmill and method for sawing a log. The sawmill includes a transfer conveyor to convey a log quarter wedge segment to a log transport rig configured to orient the log quarter wedge segment so that an apex of the log quarter wedge segment is oriented in a downward direction. The log transport rig moves the log quarter wedge segment through a band saw configured to saw the log quarter wedge segment into two log eighth wedge segments. A transfer conveyor is provided to gather the two log eighth wedge segments from the log transport rig and feed the two log eighth wedge segments sequentially to a resawing rig comprising a conveying device and from two to six band saws configured to saw boards from the each of two log eighth wedge segments in succession as each of the two log eighth wedge segments are transported through the resawing rig.

COMPUTER-IMPLEMENTED METHOD AND A COMPUTER SYSTEM FOR GENERATING A TRAINING DATASET FOR TRAINING AN ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK
20230131223 · 2023-04-27 ·

A computer-implemented method for generating a training dataset for training an artificial neural network configured to use images of lateral faces of a timber board to provide information about structure and/or defects, the method including; a log generation step during which a virtual model of a log is generated; a sawing step of the virtual model to obtain one or more virtual timber boards; a pattern step during which a surface pattern is determined as the intersection between the virtual lateral face and the internal structure and/or defects; a rendering step during which a rendered surface image of the lateral face of the virtual timber board is created; and an input data generation step during which the rendered surface images are used to create one or more item of input data; an output data generation step during which an item of output data is generated; and a population step during which a record is added to the training dataset comprising the item of input data, in combination with the item of output data.

METHOD AND DEVICE FOR PRODUCING SAWN TIMBER

In order to increase the obtainable sawn timber volume in the side board region during the production of sawn timber from a tree trunk, in a method in which the tree trunk is canted at at least two sides, preferably four sides, a remaining wane region is milled out at at least two mutually opposite corner regions by milling tools, and a side product board is cut off by a saw cut along a plane bounded by the corner regions, it is provided that, to mill out the corner regions, the milling tools are moved relative to the tree trunk in an arc, predefined on the basis of a measurement of the tree trunk, by virtue of the fact that, during a feed movement of the tree trunk relative to the milling tools, said milling tools are adjusted so as to follow the arc.

METHOD FOR IDENTIFYING A LOG OF ORIGIN OF A FIRST BOARD
20230061650 · 2023-03-02 ·

A method for identifying a log of origin of a first board, comprising an identification step, during which a second board (12) is identified which was obtained from the same log (2) as the first board (11) was obtained from, a studying step, during which identifying features of the second board (12) are identified, and a recognition step during which the log (2) of origin of the first board (11) is recognised, among a plurality of known logs (2) about which saved information is available, and this is done by identifying the log of origin of the second board (12), using the identifying features of the second board (12) itself.

APPARATUS FOR SEPARATING A SAWN TIMBER PACKAGE INTO MAIN AND SIDE PRODUCTS

An apparatus for separating a sawn timber package cut from a log into main and side products during longitudinal transport thereof, having at least one separating device positioned such that, during a feed motion of the sawn timber package, it engages in a sawing gap between single- or multi-cut main product and side product and deflects the side product in a direction leading away from the main product. Two rotatably mounted conical rollers form the separating device, each having a circumferential separating edge formed by two surfaces of revolution enclosing an acute angle, and the two conical rollers are arranged on both sides of the sawn timber package and oriented such that they engage laterally into the sawing gap with respective separating edges and roll on the main product with their first surface of revolution, while deflecting the side product from the main product with their second surface of revolution.

Machine vision based sawmill audit system

Sawmill auditing and control apparatus and methods employ information from one or more scan zones and/or controllers (e.g., PLCs). Boards may be logically associated with mill equipment which produced the boards, allowing defects or imperfections to be tied to certain equipment. For example, boards may be associated with a primary breakdown machine or a gangsaw, or with a pair of cutters (e.g., saws, chip heads). Such allows auditing of mill operations to identify improperly functioning machinery or out of tolerance conditions, to correct such, and/or provide notification.

Virtual autocalibration of sensors
11200084 · 2021-12-14 · ·

The present disclosure describes methods and systems for virtually calibrating geometric sensors with overlapping fields of view. In some embodiments, a geometric sensor may be virtually calibrated by applying a correction value to profile data obtained by the geometric sensor to generate adjusted profile data. The correction factor may be determined based at least in part on X-Y offsets and/or rotational offsets of prior profile data obtained by the geometric sensor relative to corresponding profile data obtained by a reference geometric sensor, and may be recalculated or updated as new sets of profile data are obtained. The adjusted profile data may be used in place of the original profile data in various data processing operations to functionally offset a positional error of the geometric sensor.
