Treated porous material
The present disclosure describes a treated cellulosic material comprising a cellulosic material having a porous structure defining a plurality of pores, at least a portion of the pores containing a treating agent comprising a polymer comprising an olefin-carboxylic acid copolymer; and a modifying agent comprising an epoxy.
Treated Cellulosic Materials and Methods of Making the Same
Disclosed herein are methods of modifying properties of a cellulosic material, the method comprising: depositing an additive onto the cellulosic material, the additive being in a vapor phase and configured to modify one or more properties of the cellulosic material; and adsorbing the additive into the cellulosic material, wherein the additive reacts with one or more functional groups of the cellulosic material. The depositing can comprise an atomic layer deposition of the additive onto the cellulosic material. The additive can be configured to react with a nucleophile in the cellulosic material. The one or more properties of the cellulosic material can include: hydrophobicity, thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, fungo-toxicity, toxicity, wettability, tensile strength, corrosiveness, biodegradability, bio-toxicity, or swelling.
WOOD-ENCASED PENCIL
A description is given of a wood-encased pencil comprising a casing and a core, the casing consisting of wood material impregnated with a saccharide component, the saccharide component comprising at least one mono-, di- or oligosaccharide in solution in a vehicle.

A description is given of a wood-encased pencil comprising a casing and a core, the casing consisting of wood material impregnated with a saccharide component, the saccharide component comprising at least one mono-, di- or oligosaccharide and at least one polybasic organic acid in solution in a vehicle.
CHEMICAL PROCESSES AND COMPOSITIONS FOR MECHANICALLY STABILIZING CELLULOSE-LIGNIN BASED ARTIFACTS
In one inventive concept, a product for modifying a cellulose-lignin material with siloxane includes a mixture having a siloxane species, a metal catalyst, and a nonpolar solvent. The mixture is operative to modify a cellulose-lignin material with siloxane upon wetting of the cellulose-lignin material with the mixture and subsequent drying of the cellulose-lignin material. In another inventive concept, a product includes a siloxane-modified cellulose-lignin material having a cellulose-lignin network and a network of siloxane in cross-linking bridges in the cellulose-lignin network.

METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING A WOOD-POLYMER COMPOSITE
The present invention relates to the manufacturing a wood-polymer composite. It is directed to a method for manufacturing such a composite, including the provision of a wood element (1), the impregnation of the wood element with a lactic acid water-based solution (2), and then the thermal treatment of the impregnated wood element (3) at a heating temperature higher than a nominal temperature where the in-situ polymerization of the lactic acid is initiated, in order both to induce the diffusion of the lactic water-based solution acid water-based solution within the impregnated wood element and to initiate the in-situ polymerization of the lactic acid. According to the invention, the thermal treatment (3) includes the acceleration of the increase of the heating temperature and/or the decreasing of the nominal temperature.
COMBINED PROCESS OF HYDROLYSIS AND ESTERIFICATION OF WOOD
A method of treating a cellulose-based material, for example wood and engineered wood is provided, wherein the process involves the following steps: selecting and placing the cellulose-based material in a treatment chamber; impregnating the cellulose-based material with an impregnating agent consisting of an aqueous solution comprising a fluid suitable for esterification; facilitating a hydrolysis process whereby the impregnating agent reacts resulting in the formation of esters and polyesters inside the cellulosed-based material.
