NEW WOOD PROTECTING METHODS AND WOOD PRODUCTS PRODUCED WITH THE METHODS
Disclosed herein is an environmentally friendly wood protecting method against biological deterioration such as fungal, bacterial and insect damage and non-biological wood deterioration such as weathering. The method comprises contacting a wood material with an aqueous solution of a zirconium salts which is followed by a heat treatment step, providing durable protection of wood against biodegradation and improving several other properties of the treated wood.
TREATMENT OF WOOD
The present invention relates methods for heat treatment of wood. The invention further relates to wood obtainable by the methods of the invention as well as the use of the method for preparing treated wood. The method comprises the step of pressurising said airtight tank (4) to a predefined pressure (P.sub.1) in order to establish a pressurised environment for said wood (6). The method comprises the step of placing said wood (6) in an airtight tank (4) and heating said wood (6) to a predefined temperature (T.sub.2, T.sub.3). The predefined pressure (P.sub.1) is kept so high that the water in the wood (6) cannot evaporate at the predefined temperature (T.sub.2, T.sub.3).
Modified wood product and a process for producing said product
The present invention relates to a process for preparing a modified wood product wherein the wood is treated with low-molecular weight resin based on lignin degradation products. The present invention also relates to a modified wood product produced using said process.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING ULTRA-STABLE AND ENHANCED SOLID WOOD FLOORING FOR UNDER-FLOOR HEATING VIA SURFACE COMPRESSION TECHNIQUE
A method for producing an ultra-stable and enhanced solid wood flooring for under-floor heating via surface compression technique includes: subjecting, while subjecting a solid wood to surface compression and enhancement, the solid wood to primary stabilization treatment by controlling a temperature of a hot pressing plate to obtain a compressed enhanced solid wood; putting the compressed enhanced solid wood into a heat treatment tank; and subjecting the compressed enhanced solid wood to secondary stabilization treatment by controlling a pressure and a temperature of steam or air in the heat treatment tank and a treatment time to obtain a finished product. The ultra-stable surface-compressed enhanced solid wood flooring produced by the method features high dimensional stability, low set-recovery after water absorption, and desired moisture and heat resistance.
Enhanced performance of wood and engineered wood products using combined durability and flame retardancy
A treatment process and wood products thereof including a product formulation of a single phase solution combining a wood preservative (durable component) with a Flame Retardant component (FR) to produce a durable Flame Retardant (dFR) treated wood product. The durable component comprises a range of copper based and non-copper based wood preservatives, while the FR component comprises alkali metal silicates and alkali metal aluminate compounds. The dFR working solution undergoes chemical impregnation (treatment) followed by a heat (fixation) process step that locks the chemical into the wood making it non-leachable. The dFR treated wood products are tested for their enhanced fire performance properties. When heated, wood undergoes thermal degradation and combustion producing gases, vapors, tars and chars. Using a cone calorimeter burn test method, dFR treated wood products show a significant reduction in heat release rate, mass loss rate and smoke generated values compared to untreated radiate pine.
Process for the manufacture of carboxylic anhydride
The present invention concerns a process for manufacturing a fraction comprising carboxylic acid anhydride by reaction of a fraction comprising carboxylic acid with a ketene, and the use of the fraction comprising carboxylic acid anhydride in a process for acylation of polysaccharides.
WOOD MODIFICATION TO ENHANCE FIRE RETARDANCY
The co-formulation of a wood preservative (‘treated’) with an inorganic (alkali metal silicates) based flame retardant which undergoes chemical impregnation. Once the ‘treated flame retardant” working solution has fully penetrated (sapwood) into the wood, it then undergoes a heat (fixation) process using various heating schedules to achieve chemical fixation. The treated flame retardant Modified Wood [tfrMW] products are then tested for their enhanced fire performance properties. When heated, wood undergoes thermal degradation and combustion producing gases, vapours, tars & chars. Using the ‘cone calorimeter’ test method, the [tfrMW] products showed a significant reduction in the following parameters: heat release rate (HRR), mass loss rate (MLR) & smoke generated (SEA) values compared to untreated radiata pine.

METHOD OF MANUFACTURING BAMBOO TOOTHBRUSH AND BAMBOO TOOTHBRUSH MANUFACTURED THEREBY
Disclosed is a method of manufacturing bamboo toothbrush and a toothbrush manufactured thereby. According to the method of manufacturing bamboo toothbrush of a detailed embodiment of the present invention and a toothbrush manufactured by the method, it is possible to improve strength, surface roughness, and moisture resistance of a bamboo and adjust the color of the bamboo using hot pressing. Further, since sanding and polishing and separate coating and drying are not performed, the process time is reduced, whereby the manufacturing cost can be reduced.
HEAT-TREATED ENGINEERED WOOD FOR FLOORING
Thermally-modified panels, boards, and flooring manufactured from engineered wood, including, but not limited to, oriented-strand board (OSB). These products may be in the form of a sub-floor panel or substrate, a board, a panel, a combined panel, tile, or similar form. Heat treatment or thermal modification of wood or wood-based composites provides wood-based products with improved water resistance, dimensional stability, microbial resistance, and related biological durability with reduced use of harmful chemicals and/or the elimination of hazardous chemical pretreatments.
