Apparatus and method for splitting logs
One embodiment for splitting logs is described as including a first handle; a second handle; a unitary body wedge comprising a cutting wedge coupled to the first handle and a splitting wedge coupled to the second handle, wherein the first handle and the second handle are co-aligned along an axis of the log splitting tool when the cutting wedge and the splitting wedge form the unitary body wedge. As a user swings the log splitting tool in an overhead arc, driving the unitary body wedge into a log that is to be split, a cutting edge of the cutting wedge is driven downward into the log. The user spreads the first and second handles apart in opposing directions so that leverage created by the length of the first and second handles force the cutting wedge and the splitting wedge to separate apart from each other, causing the log to split.
Fuel procurement tool and method(s) of use
A handheld tool configured to procure fuel is described. Embodiments of the fuel procurement tool include a handhold having a cutting mechanism located proximate one end of the handhold. Typically, the cutting mechanism can include at least one cutter link having a depth gauge, a top plate, and a gullet formed between the depth gauge and the top plate. The fuel procurement tool can be implemented to procure kindling from a piece of wood.
Apparatus for splitting wood into kindling
A specialized wood splitting tool and chopping block, used together, enable cutting kindling from ordinary firewood in an effective and safe manner. The splitting tool uses leverage in addition to downward momentum of the cutting head to split wood. The metal handle and metal cutting head are preferably formed from a single piece of steel, in a perpendicular configuration similar to an adz. A splitting wedge blade within the handle exerts transverse shear forces to enhance splitting, and flat upper surfaces of the cutting head and the handle near the joint provide a striking surface. A complimentary chopping block for bracing logs of various diameters in a steady upright position has a V-shaped recess that is open on one end. The chopping block provides resistance to the unique leverage of the splitting tool during the splitting action.
WEDGE HOLDER FOR LOG SPLITTING
A wedge holder system and kit and method for splitting a log having a polymer foam block member with a concave top surface forming a basin with raised left and right longitudinal sides paralleling a center axis, the top surface designed to conform to a rounded side of a log. A planar bottom surface of the block member is designed to rest on a log cross section. At least one slot portion through the foam block member is designed to hold an at least one metal wedge member vertically to drive the metal wedge into a log. At least one V-shaped notch portion for holding wood vertically may be disposed within at least one exterior longitudinal side portion of the polymer foam block member. Polymer foam block members may be adjacent or coupled lengthwise or vertically.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR SPLITTING LOGS
One embodiment for splitting a log comprises a first handle; a second handle; a unitary body wedge comprising a cutting wedge coupled to the first handle and a splitting wedge coupled to the second handle, wherein the first handle and the second handle are co-aligned along an axis of the log splitting tool when the cutting wedge and the splitting wedge form the unitary body wedge.
LOG SPLITTING DEVICE
A tool for log-splitting is provided with a handle structure defining a long axis, and including a first handle and a second handle. The handles extend substantially parallel to the long axis. Coupled to the handles are an axe head including a first wedge and a second wedge with the axe head extending perpendicularly from the long axis of the handle structure to a sharpened edge. The wedges are coupled by a hinged joint providing for the first and second wedges selectively to be aligned together and to be separated. The first wedge includes a notch behind the sharpened edge and the second wedge includes a leading edge that, with the wedges aligned together, is positioned in the notch.
Kindling splitter apparatus and methods of use
A wood splitter apparatus comprising a base portion and a leg portion extending upwards from the base portion. An elevated cross member portion extending across the leg portion. A blade portion extending superiorly from the cross member portion. A leading upward edge at a superior aspect of the blade portion for splitting wood. A first splitter surface angled from a second splitter surface inferior to the leading upward edge. A collector portion positioned below the blade portion where the collector portion has a capture space. The collector having a floor face at a bottom of said capture space. The collector portion supported at an angle such that the floor face is sloped defining a high side and a low side where kindling split from a log over the blade portion falls into the high side of the collector portion and gathers on the low side of the collector portion.
