Methodologies to rapidly cure and coat parts produced by additive manufacturing
A process to cure and/or modify the surface of a three dimensional (3D) printed part comprising the steps of immersing a three dimensional (3D) printed part, containing reactive moieties, into a liquid bath at an elevated temperature to effect polymerization of the reactive moieties of the 3D printed part to provide a cured 3D printed part is described. The liquid bath can further contain reactive molecules that can react with the surface of the 3D printed part to provide a coating which alters the surface characteristics of the 3D printed part.
A METHOD FOR IMPRINTING MICROPATTERNS ON A SUBSTRATE OF AN ORGANIC POLYMER
A method for nanoimprinting a pattern on an organic polymer substrate, comprising: (a) preparing a soft operational mold, the operational mold comprising a pattern to be replicated to the substrate; (b) soaking the operational mold in a solvent to produce diffusion of solvent to the mold; (c) removing the operational mold from the solvent, and placing it on a surface of the organic polymer substrate to form a structure, and simultaneously (i) heating the structure to a temperature T<Tg, where Tg is the glass transition temperature of the organic polymer; and (ii) applying controlled pressure in a range of 20-300 psi on the mold to effect a penetration into the surface of the organic polymer substrate, thereby to replicate the pattern of the mold to the surface of the substrate; and (d) separating the operational mold from the patterned substrate.

Method for preparing ultra high molecular weight polyethylene composite materials
The present invention provides a method for preparing an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) composite material including the following steps: providing a substrate material having medical grade ultra high molecular weight polyethylene powders, drying the substrate material to obtain fully dried UHMWPE powders, and pressing the fully dried UHMWPE powders to form a UHMWPE board; immersing the UHMWPE board into a graphene oxide solution and performing an ultrasonic induction by an ultrasonic processor such that the graphene oxide solution infiltrates into the UHMWPE substrate to obtain an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene composite material with excellent biocompatibility and tribological properties. The graphene oxide can be adsorbed and evenly spread on the surface of UHMWPE substrate by ultrasonic induction to form a lubricating film which can effectively reduce wear.
Additive manufacturing
The present application describes apparatus (100) for colouring an additively manufactured polymer part, comprising a chamber (106) for locating at least one additively manufactured polymer part (105) to be coloured, a first reservoir (102) for containing dye pigment particles to be suspended in a gas, and fluidly coupled to the chamber, and a further reservoir (104) for containing a solvent vapour, and fluidly coupled to the chamber. A method of colouring an additively manufactured polymer part is also described.
Methods of manufacturing wire, multi-layer wire pre-products and wires
Exemplary methods for manufacturing a wire and resultant wires are disclosed herein. The method includes extruding a receptor cross-linkable polymer that is substantially free of curing agent about a conductive core and extruding a donor polymer in association with a curing agent. The method includes disposing the donor polymer about the receptor polymer and conductive core to create a multi-layer wire pre-product. The method also includes heat curing a multi-layer wire pre-product to form a wire.
METHOD FOR DYEING MOULDED PARTS MADE FROM A POLYMER
A method is provided for dyeing a molded part produced in a 3D printing process with a polymer. The method includes a dyeing step for dyeing the surface of the molded part with a dye, and a first post-treatment step for fixing the dye which has penetrated the surface of the molded part. Optionally, a second post-treatment step can be carried out in order to achieve even better fixing of the dye which has penetrated the surface of the molded part.
PROCESS FOR DYEING A HYDROLYSIS RESISTANT POLYESTER FILM
The present disclosure relates to a process for dyeing a hydrolysis-resistant polyester film. The process comprises dyeing of a hydrolysis resistant polyester film in a dye bath comprising at least one coloring agent (dye), at least one polyhydric alcohol, and optionally at least one UV absorber to obtain a dyed film. The dyed film is subjected to quenching followed by cleaning and drying to obtain a dyed hydrolysis-resistant polyester film. The process of the present disclosure is simple, economical, improve hydrolysis resistance, and also retains the mechanical properties of the film when exposed to harsh environmental conditions.
Finishing Of Additively Manufactured Parts With Smoothing And Color
A surface finishing apparatus and method for smoothing and coloring parts made by additive-manufacturing technologies is disclosed. The surface finishing apparatus includes a tank or chamber into which a part is placed. A colorant is added. The part is both colored and smoothed until the part is at a desired smoothness and color. The part may be smoothed by different suitable smoothing technologies, including abrading with solid media, spraying with a liquid fluid, spraying with solid particles entrained in a liquid fluid, or submersing in a liquid vortex. Also disclosed is a composition for a colorant for a finishing process that smooths a surface of an additively manufactured part while coloring the additively manufactured part.
