This invention relates to application of labels from a supply of labels which are defined in sheet material and in which adjacent labels are joined together by a line of weakening to form a continuous label supply. The label sheet material is provided with a layer of adhesive which contacts with a backing layer to form the label supply. The leading label is provided with a leading edge portion detached from the backing layer from application at an application point to an article and the article and label feed movement are controlled such that the remainder of the label can be detached from the backing layer, and the line of weakening broken effectively and accurately and without the need for the sheet material of the label supply and/or backing layer to have a thickness to provide the level of rigidity or stiffness of the material which is conventionally required, thereby reducing material usage and wastage.

Zero-Poisson-ratio honeycomb structure and interlocking assembly manufacturing method thereof

A zero-Poisson-ratio honeycomb structure and an interlocking assembly manufacturing method thereof are provided. The honeycomb structure is formed by combining a four-pointed star shaped structure and horizontal and vertical honeycomb wall arrays at star corners. The zero-Poisson-ratio honeycomb structure not only has the zero-Poisson-ratio characteristic, but also can achieve respective design of in-plane and out-of-plane mechanical properties. Meanwhile, due to the existence of the horizontal honeycomb walls and the vertical honeycomb walls, the connection of multiple honeycomb walls at angular points in the honeycomb structure is avoided. Moreover, a novel manufacturing mode is provided for the honeycomb structure in addition to prepare the honeycomb structure by utilizing a 3D printing process. The honeycomb structure can be manufactured by combining an interlocking assembly process with resin matrix composites. The performance of the honeycomb structure is further improved at the material level.

Method and tool for manufacturing a plastic container, in particular a fuel container, by means of internal pressure forming

A method for manufacturing a plastic container by internal pressure forming including positioning a tubular preform between the die parts of a molding die having a die cavity; closing the molding die and forming or preforming a container from the preform using internal pressure, wherein a peripheral portion of the preform is pressed out of the die cavity through a die gap; laterally withdrawing the peripheral portion pressed out of the die cavity, as a result of which the container is divided into two container halves; and thermally separating plastic bridges and/or plastic threads which arise during the lateral withdrawal of the peripheral portion. Also disclosed is a molding die suitable for carrying out the method.

IMPLANTABLE MEDICAL DEVICE WITH VARIED COMPOSITION AND POROSITY, AND METHOD FOR FORMING SAME

A method for forming a thermoplastic body having regions with varied material composition and/or porosity. Powder blends comprising a thermoplastic polymer, a sacrificial porogen and an inorganic reinforcement or filler are molded to form complementary parts with closely toleranced mating surfaces. The parts are formed discretely, assembled and compression molded to provide a unitary article that is free from discernible boundaries between the assembled parts. Each part in the assembly has differences in composition and/or porosity, and the assembly has accurate physical features throughout the sections of the formed article, without distortion and nonuniformities caused by variable compaction and densification rates in methods that involve compression molding powder blends in a single step.

Method for producing composite components having an undevelopable surface. To be able to maintain the tolerances when manufacturing especially large components in the case of composite components with undevelopable surfaces, it is proposed according to the invention to drape a cut-to-size blank on a molding tool and to determine the deviation of the cut-to-size blank edge from the setpoint cut-to-size edge. Then, on the basis of the deviation, a new cut-to-size blank edge is calculated, and a new cut-to-size blank is created and re-draped for examination purposes. The method is repeated until the deviations are below a tolerable threshold value. The method is furthermore carried out for each textile ply of the composite component.

Cost-effective and eco-friendly composite product with robust impact strength

A composite product substantially reduced the impact force imposed by hard impactor which travelled at the speed in the range of 400 m/s to 1400 m/s simultaneously damping the vibrations and shocks appeared therein is disclosed. At the same time it is light weight with the weight lower than that of 22 to 38 kg/m2and is flexible to adopt the shape suitable for the end applications. A method of manufacturing the composite product of the invention is also disclosed.

Described are novel composite structural panels and methods of forming such panels. In some examples, a method comprises wrapping a mandrel with a composite tape to form a composite tube. This wrapping operation allows forming composite tubular structures with any cross-sectional profiles defined by the mandrel. The wrapping is also used to control the fiber orientations in the composite tubular structures. The composite tube is then cut into composite tubular structures. In some examples, the composite tube is partially cured prior to the cutting, which allows removal of the mandrel while preserving the shape of the composite tube. This cutting operation allows forming composite tubular structures with different lengths, shapes, and orientations of the ends. The composite tubular structures are disposed on a support structure and are bonded to each other. In some examples, this bonding operation also involves final curing of the composite tubular structures.

Collapsible vane structure and related method for a shade for an architectural opening

A base structure and associated method for converting the base structure into an operable vane on a shade for an architectural opening. The base structure includes a back sheet and a front sheet attached together in engagement regions spaced along the length of the back sheet and front sheet. The front sheet is separated into front strip sections having a free end. Operating elements are positioned along the back sheet and situated so as to move relative thereto. The operating elements are attached adjacent to a free end of the front strip. Movement of the operating elements actuates the free end of the front strip to move from a closed position to an open position as desired by the user.
