METHOD FOR MONITORING AND CONTROLLING AN INJECTION MOLDING PROCESS USING A STRAIN GAUGE

Methods of monitoring and controlling a molding process using a sensed change in strain provided by a strain gauge are provided. A target strain profile is created for a molding process of a molding apparatus. An upper and lower deviation limit from the target strain profile for the molding process is provided. If a sensed change in strain exceeds a deviation limit, an alarm is activated.

Thermoset additive manufactured articles incorporating a phase change material and method to make them

An additive manufactured article is comprised of at least two adhered layers of extrudates (120) comprised of a thermoset material having therein a phase change material, wherein the phase change material undergoes a phase change at a temperature less than where the thermoset material decomposes. The article may be made by dispensing a mixture comprised of an organic reactive material and phase change material forming extrudates that are 3D printed into an article having multiple layers of extrudates bound together and then allowing the organic reactive material to react forming a thermoset material having therein the phase change material to form the additive manufactured article. The shape of the article may be changed by heating to a temperature above the temperature where the phase change material undergoes a phase change while applying a force and then cooling below the phase change temperature. Likewise, the original shape may be returned by merely heating above the phase change temperature and then cooling in the absence of a force being applied.

PROCESS FOR MOLDING A THERMOSETTING RESIN

A method of molding a thermosetting resin, in particular of the epoxy resin type, in which a first mold is filled with the resin while causing the temperature of the resin to vary in application of a first temperature program, without exceeding the Tg of the resin. After the first mold has been filled, the resin is put under pressure while causing the temperature of the resin to vary in application of a second temperature program, without exceeding Tg, and a drop in the pressure exerted by the resin on the mold is detected with the instant at which this pressure presents a break of slope being identified as the instant t1. A second mold is filled with the thermosetting resin in application of the first temperature program. After the second mold has been filled, the resin is put under pressure in application of the second temperature program until an instant t2 close to t1. As from t2, the temperature of the resin is increased to exceed Tg.

Molding method of connector portion

A molding method of a connector portion including an electric wire with a core wire, a terminal metal fitting and a mold portion, the molding method of insert-molding the mold portion with a plurality of molding dies forming a cavity corresponding to the mold portion, includes an injection step of closing the molding dies so that the insulating coating is compressed and deformed and injecting and filling a mold resin as a synthetic resin material of the mold portion into the cavity; and a mold opening step of separating the molding die in a mold opening direction while the mold resin has fluidity so that leakage of the mold resin is prevented by an elastic return pressure of the insulating coating.

Injection molding apparatus and injection molding method

An injection molding apparatus includes an injection-molding mold including a fixed mold and a movable mold, the fixed mold having a gate opening into which a molding material flows, the movable mold having a cavity and being configured to be separated from the fixed mold during mold opening; a hot runner including a nozzle having a channel that guides the molding material to the gate opening, and a heater, the hot runner being disposed in the fixed mold; and a control unit that controls a temperature of the heater to adjust a temperature of the hot runner. The control unit controls the temperature of the heater to a first temperature when the molding material is injected from the hot runner to the cavity, and after the injection of the molding material is completed, controls the temperature of the heater to a second temperature that is higher than the first temperature.

A time variation of an internal pressure of the molding cavity of a multi-phase injection molding machine is detected and represented as an internal pressure graph. An internal pressure graph recorded during a production cycle that produced an injection molded part satisfying a predefined quality characteristic is used as a reference graph. If the internal pressure graph of the current production cycle exceeds a predefined threshold value, then a current machine parameter is changed so as to adapt an internal pressure graph of a subsequent production cycle to the reference graph. Each phase of the production cycle is assigned its own machine parameter determined to have a significant impact on the quality of the parts produced. The assigned machine parameters are changed in a predefined order in a plurality of production cycles wherein exactly one assigned machine parameter is changed per production cycle.
