09796118 · 2017-10-24 · ·

Disclosed are various embodiments of an extruded expandable barrier, and various processes and systems for manufacturing the same. Using various extrusion processes to form an extruded expandable barrier allows for a reduction in tooling costs while also allowing more flexible barrier designs. Such designs can be specifically tailored for a particular cavity or cavities to ensure that the barrier fills the cavity after expansion. In addition, design changes can occur with little to no tooling changes.

Pellet-Based Fused Deposition Modeling 3-D Print Process for Production Manufacturing

A device and method manufacture an object for a user by fused deposition. A screw conveyor conveys a plurality of solid thermoplastic pellets from a hopper to a barrel. A heating element, coupled to the barrel, melts the solid thermoplastic pellets within the barrel, thereby producing a thermoplastic liquid. The thermoplastic liquid is extruded through a nozzle that caps one end of the barrel, the extruded thermoplastic liquid thereafter solidifying into the object. A computerized control system controls both a flow rate of the thermoplastic liquid, by adjusting rotation of a motor coupled to the screw conveyor, and a position of the nozzle above the build surface according to a three-dimensional shape of the object. The device and method are particularly suited for mass production of customized shoes and other objects, whereby thermoplastic material can be easily combined with customized colorants and blowing agents.

Silicon Extrusion Plant, Method for Silicon Extrusion and Silicon Extrudate Produced Herewith

A silicon extrusion plant has a silicon extruder and a silicon feed device configured to load the silicon extruder. The silicon feed device has a feed hopper. The feed hopper opens into a feed opening arranged at the bottom thereof. The feed opening is in a fluidic connection, via a feed duct, with an inlet zone of the silicon extruder. A feed screw arranged in the feed hopper in such a way as to be drivable for rotation protrudes into the feed opening at least partly. The feed screw has a cone portion and a cylinder portion. According to another aspect, the silicon extrusion plant has at least one feed pressure sensor configured to measure an actual feed pressure of silicon material to be extruded. The pressure sensor is arranged in a transition region between the silicon feed device and the silicon extruder. A control unit is in a signal communication with the feed pressure sensor and a feed drive device in order to drive the silicon feed device. The control unit is used to define a nominal feed pressure and to transmit an actuating signal to the feed drive device depending on a difference detected between the nominal feed pressure and the actual feed pressure. As a result, a silicon extruder is obtained that is usable for the mass production of silicon extrudate.
