Hybrid metal and composite polymer wheels for motor vehicles

Presented are hybrid metal and fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composite wheels for vehicle wheel assemblies, methods for making/using such wheels, and motor vehicles equipped with such wheels. A wheel for a motor vehicle wheel assembly includes a wheel face with multiple spokes that are circumferentially spaced about and project radially outward from a central hub. The central hub rotatably attaches to the vehicle's body, e.g., via a corner module. The wheel face is fabricated, e.g., as a one-piece structure, from an FRP material. A wheel barrel, which circumscribes the wheel face, includes an annular rim that mounts thereon an inflatable tire. The wheel barrel is fabricated, e.g., as a one-piece structure, from a metallic material. Multiple overmold through holes and/or inset tabs are circumferentially spaced about the annular rim. The FRP material extends through and/or surrounds the overmold through holes/inset tabs and thereby mounts the wheel face to the wheel barrel.

Reinforced composite assemblies and methods of manufacturing the same

A reinforced composite assembly includes a first sheet made of carbon fiber and having a first perimeter, a second sheet made of a non-carbon fiber material and having a second perimeter, wherein the second sheet is disposed atop the first sheet within the first perimeter, and a metallic plate having a third perimeter, wherein the metallic plate is disposed atop the second sheet within the second perimeter. The metallic plate has a plurality of holes formed therein about a perimeter of the metallic plate and defining a plurality of respective bridge portions between each of the holes and an adjacent outer edge of the metallic plate, and/or a plurality of extensions extending outward from a main portion of the metallic plate. A first arrangement of thread stitching secures each of the bridge portions and extensions to the second sheet or to the first and second sheets.

Closure

A closure is configured to mount on a container to close an open mouth formed in the container. The closure includes a lid and an outer layer coupled to the lid.

Method for producing a plastic-coated loudspeaker housing and plastic-coated loudspeaker housing

A method for producing a plastic-coated loudspeaker housing comprises the putting together of a loudspeaker housing from a plurality of housing wall elements. The put-together loudspeaker housing is placed in a mold. This is followed by a surface coating of the put-together loudspeaker housing by introducing a liquid, curable plastic into the mold.

A fastening strip for touch fasteners is provided which includes a corrugated portion as well as fastening elements. The corrugated portion allows the strip to be bent in a plane perpendicular as well as parallel with the longitudinal axis of the strip such that it may be applied to curved surfaces and remain substantially flat. Fastening elements such as hooks, loops, mushroom-shaped, bulbous and double hooks may be included on both sides of the strip and on the walls of the channels that form the corrugations as well as between the corrugations. The corrugated fastening strips may be useful for automotive seating and diaper applications. Processes for forming the corrugated fastening strip area also disclosed.

COMPOSITE

Provided is a composite (A) including a metal plate (B) and a reinforcing member (C) that is made of a resin. The metal plate (B) includes a joint portion (2) that is continuous with one end of a body portion (1), a hole that is formed through the body portion (1) in a thickness direction of the body portion (1) in the proximity of the joint portion (2), and a guide portion provided around the hole. The reinforcing member (C) continuously includes a main portion (5), a coupling portion (6) formed in the hole (3), and a locking portion (7) that is held in close contact with a surface on another side of the body portion (1). The guide portion (4) is at least one of a protruding portion provided on at least one of a rear side and a lateral side relative to the hole (3) in a direction from the body portion (1) to the joint portion (2), and a recessed portion extended from a front side relative to the hole (3) to the hole (3) in the direction from the body portion to the joint portion. In insert molding of the composite (A), a molten resin is introduced preferentially into the hole (3). With this, the joint portion (2) is formed reliably in good condition free from adhesion of the resin.

METHOD OF MANUFACTURING COMPOSITE, AND COMPOSITE

A method of manufacturing a composite includes bringing a first surface of a first base in which a first fiber base that is to constitute the first base is impregnated with a first resin into contact with a second surface of a second base in which a second fiber base that is to constitute the second base is not impregnated with a second resin, and impregnating the second fiber base with a portion of the first resin with which the first fiber base is impregnated.

Method and system for reinforced pipe insulation

A method for assembling a reinforced non-compressible pipe support by inserting a plurality of generally cylindrical holes in a first sheet of insulation in a pre-determined pattern, inserting a similar group of holes in at least a second sheet of insulation so that the holes of both sheets line up when the first sheet is placed against a pre-determined cylindrical or flat form and the second sheet is placed on top of the first sheet thereby forming contiguous voids where mating holes are positioned adjacent each other, applying a pressurized flowable material to fill each void along its longitudinal axis, and curing the material until it forms a hardened material thereby forming the plurality of sheets into a non-compressible arcuate body having an inner radius of curvature that fits against a pipe or into a rectilinear block. Multiples sheets may be adhered and thermoplastic or resin used to fuse them together.
