The closure needles each include, on their ends facing away from the tip, a coupling means, which is coupled to a drive means for moving the closure needles. The tip elements are supported on their side facing away from the respective tip of the closure needles on a buttress element inserted between the nozzle body and the pressure lid.

The nozzle tip can include grooves that define extended, sharply angled flow paths for the resin. Nozzle tips can have a neck portion separating a nozzle body and a tip end of the nozzle tip; here, a doughnut-shaped space located around the neck portion can be defined by the base of the nozzle, the crown of the nozzle, and the neck portion, for encouraging turbulent flow of the resin to scour the nozzle tip during dispensing.

The nozzle tip consists of an outer member, provided with an axial pass-through cavity, which at one end comprises a central pass-through conduit for the exit of the molten material, an inner member, having an axial pass-through cavity, which is coaxially mounted within the outer member and comprises a tapered tip with a hole to direct the molten material to the central conduit, and an annular-shape insert made of wear-resistant material, with a central pass-through cavity into which the valve pin can slide and mounted in correspondence with the central pass-through conduit.

To prevent or mitigate wear, the central pass-through cavity of the insert is constituted of the juxtaposition of a cylindrical-shape cavity portion and a conical-shape cavity portion, and the insert is a separate piece and directly interposed between the tapered tip of the inner member and an inner surface of the outer member so that said tapered tip abuts against the inlet of the conical-shape cavity portion at a zone of mutual contact.

A co-injection hot runner nozzle comprises an inner melt flow channel and an annular outer melt flow channel that surrounds the inner melt flow channel. The inner and outer melt flow channels have a first common source. The nozzle further comprises an annular intermediate melt flow channel disposed between the inner and outer melt flow channels. The annular intermediate melt flow channel is at least partly defined by a plurality of spiral grooves, each spiral groove having a respective inlet and defining a helical flow path. Lands between adjacent spiral grooves increase in clearance in a downstream direction. An annular axial flow path is defined over the lands. A plurality of feeder channels having a second common source is configured to supply melt to the plurality of inlets of the spiral grooves. The relationship of feeder channels to spiral grooves may be one-to-one. The inlets may be longitudinal channels.

The nozzle has a nozzle channel in fluid communication between the manifold channel and the mold cavity. A valve pin seal is located at the upstream end of the nozzle, and a valve pin that is connected to an actuator extends through the manifold and nozzle is slidably received in the valve pin seal. The hot runner system further includes a thermal bridge that is in conductive thermal communication with the valve pin seal and a cooled one of the plurality of mold plates.
