Heat exchanger, oxygenator, and method of manufacturing a heat exchanger
11364327 · 2022-06-21 · ·

A heat exchanger for an oxygenator device has multiple hollow fiber membranes that each have a hollow portion through which a heat medium passes, wherein the fibers are wound as a cylinder body. Each of the hollow fiber membranes follows a path between opposing ends of the cylinder body which is tilted with respect to a central axis of the cylinder body and is wound around the central axis of the cylinder body, wherein a tilt angle θ with respect to the central axis ranges from 22° to smaller than 67°, and wherein a constituent material of each of the hollow fiber membranes has a Young's modulus E ranging from 2.6 GPa to 0.07 GPa. During winding, the hollow fiber membranes are stretched according to a stretching rate between 0.5% and 3.0% and then fixed at the ends to maintain the stretching.

The apparatus additionally comprises a mounting plate having a central aperture, and two or more of the devices mounted on the mounting plate such that the first end of each device is arranged bearing against a pipe extending through the central aperture. A method of manufacturing reinforced pipe is also provided.

Reducing manufacturing defects of a wound filament product

A filament winding assembly includes a rotating mandrel coupled to a shaft that rotates the rotating mandrel. The rotating mandrel includes a first perforated sleeve that defines holes and includes a winding surface. The rotating mandrel also includes a second perforated sleeve disposed inside the first perforated sleeve. The second perforated sleeve defines an interior volume and holes configured to form fluid pathways with the holes of the first perforated sleeve. The fluid pathways extend from the interior volume to the winding surface of the first perforated sleeve. The filament winding assembly includes a filament that is wound, under tension, around the winding surface of the first perforated sleeve. The filament winding assembly also includes a fluid source fluidically coupled to the interior volume of the second perforated sleeve. The fluid source exhausts fluid, through the fluid pathways, from the wound filament to reduce manufacturing defects of the wound filament.
