BIAXIALLY ORIENTED POLYPROPYLENE FILM

Provided is a biaxially oriented polypropylene film that has high stiffness and can easily retain a bag shape when made into a packaging bag even if the film is made thinner, and at the same time, that can maintain water vapor barrier properties even if the film is made thinner, and has few wrinkles in and around the sealed portion when heat-sealed to make a packaging body. The biaxially oriented polypropylene film satisfies the following (1) and (2): (1) a half width of a peak derived from an oriented crystal in a width direction in angular dependency of a (110) plane of polypropyleneα-type crystal obtained by wide-angle X-ray diffraction measurement is 26° or smaller; (2) the ratio of (III) to the total of a crystalline component (I), a restrained amorphous component (II), and an unrestrained amorphous component (III) classified by pulse NMR according to solid-echo method is 7% or lower.

In some embodiments, the present invention is directed to an actuator which includes at least the following: a pre-stretched electro-active polymer film being pre-stretched in a single or biaxial planar directions; at least one first semi-stiff conductor attached to a first surface of the pre-stretched electro-active polymer film, wherein the first surface is parallel to the single or biaxial planar stretch directions; at least one second semi-stiff conductor attached to a second surface of the pre-stretched electro-active polymer film, wherein the second surface is opposite to the first surface; where the semi-stiff conductors are configured to: fix the pre-stretched electro-active polymer film in a pre-stretched state and allow the pre-stretched electro-active polymer film to expand; a pair of mechanical connectors coupled to each end of an active region of the pre-stretched electro-active polymer film.

Membranes, calendered microporous membranes, battery separators, and related methods

Novel or improved microporous single or multilayer battery separator membranes, separators, batteries including such membranes or separators, methods of making such membranes, separators, and/or batteries, and/or methods of using such membranes, separators and/or batteries are provided. In accordance with at least certain embodiments, a multilayer dry process polyethylene/polypropylene/polyethylene microporous separator which is manufactured using the inventive process which includes machine direction stretching followed by transverse direction stretching and a subsequent calendering step as a means to reduce the thickness of the multilayer microporous membrane, to reduce the percent porosity of the multilayer microporous membrane in a controlled manner and/or to improve transverse direction tensile strength. In a very particular embodiment, the inventive process produces a thin multilayer microporous membrane that is easily coated with polymeric-ceramic coatings, has excellent mechanical strength properties due to its polypropylene layer or layers and a thermal shutdown function due to its polyethylene layer or layers. The ratio of the thickness of the polypropylene and polyethylene layers in the inventive multilayer microporous membrane can be tailored to balance mechanical strength and thermal shutdown properties.

Co-extruded, biaxially oriented, matte HDPE films

Disclosed are compositions and methods for multilayer films, which, in one embodiment may comprise a core layer comprising at least 50 wt. % of high-density polyethylene. Further, the multilayer film may include a first skin layer comprising at least 80 wt. % of high-density polyethylene, and a second skin layer comprising either: (i) one or more low-density polyethylenes; or (ii) one or more polypropylene-based copolymers. The multilayer film may be oriented in at least one direction.

Method of making a nonwoven web

Soft point bonded nonwoven webs, and methods of making the same, are described that utilize a pattern of small, discrete bond points in a sequent pattern that together form macro-elements. The macro-elements are themselves positioned and aligned within a pattern such that mechanical stretching operations on the point bonded nonwoven webs yields soft and bulky fabrics but with reduced incidence of tearing or rupturing of the individual bond points.

POROUS MEMBRANE WIPES AND METHODS OF MANUFACTURE AND USE

A microporous membrane wipe and a method of using such microporous membrane wipe are disclosed. The microporous membrane wipe may be uniaxially or biaxially oriented microporous membrane. The uniaxially or biaxially oriented microporous membrane may be made from one or more block and/or impact copolymers of polyethylene and/or polypropylene. A method of using such a microporous membrane wipe for skin oil blotting is also disclosed. Further disclosed is a method of using such a microporous membrane wipe for cleaning a surface for the removal of fingerprints, smudges and the like, where such surfaces may include, for example, eyeglasses, electronics, cell phones, displays, optical devices, camera lenses, microscope lenses and other precision optics, and/or the like.
