METHOD OF PERMANENTLY JOINING COMPOSITE PARTS MADE FROM THERMOPLASTIC MATERIAL, ARRANGEMENT OF COMPOSITE PARTS, AND AIRCRAFT
A method of permanently joining composite parts made from thermoplastic material includes providing a first composite part and a second composite part, both made from thermoplastic material, wherein an orifice is provided in at least one of the composite parts, positioning both composite parts such that a portion of the composite part which includes the orifice is adjacent to a portion of the other composite part, injecting melted thermoplastic material through the orifice to contact the first and the second composite part in a contact area, whereby surfaces of the first and the second composite part in that contact area melt together; and solidifying the thermoplastic material in the orifice and in the contact area to permanently join the first composite part to the second composite part.
Method and system for joining two components of a meltable material
A method for joining two components of a meltable material comprises the steps of providing a first component having a first border region and a second component having a second border region, placing the second component relative to the first component so as to form an overlap between the first border region and the second border region under a gap between the first border region and the second border region, continuously heating opposed sections of the first border region and the second border region at the same time through at least one energy source arranged in the gap at least partially, continuously providing a relative motion of the at least one energy source along the first border region and the second border region in the gap, and continuously pressing already heated sections of the first border region and the second border region onto each other.
Joining method and assembly for an aircraft
A joining method and assembly for an aircraft. To improve the characteristics or permit hitherto impossible connections between thermoplastic and thermoset components, a multi-material joining method is disclosed in which a thermoplastic connecting region is formed on the thermoplastic component. The connecting region is connected to the thermoset component by interdiffusion. For this purpose, the uncured second component is brought into contact with the connecting region and heat is supplied. An interdiffusion layer is formed which fixedly connects the second component and the connecting region to one another and thus joins the first component to the second component.
TAPE TO MASK A STRUCTURE
Tape and method to mask a structure. The tape includes a base layer having length, width, outside surface, inside surface, and top edge spaced from bottom edge. A first portion of the width of the inside surface includes a first tacky adhesive layer connected to the inside surface and located adjacent the top edge. A second portion of the width of the inside surface includes a second tacky adhesive layer connected to the inside surface and located adjacent the bottom edge. At least a portion of the base layer includes a water impermeable area that prevents water adjacent the outside surface from reaching the inside surface by passing through the base layer. And, a third portion of the width of the inside surface of the base layer includes a non-tacky area located between the first tacky adhesive layer and the second tacky adhesive layer.
Edge attached film-foam sheet
The present disclosure generally relates to devices and methods for furniture protection. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to foam-film sheets configured to protect furniture from damage. An exemplary foam-film sheet as disclosed herein includes a sheet of foam material having a first lateral edge and a second lateral edge; a sheet of film material having a first lateral edge and a second lateral edge; a first seal between a portion of the foam material proximate its first lateral edge and a portion of the film material proximate its first lateral edge; and a second seal between a portion of the foam material proximate its second lateral edge and a portion of the film material proximate its second lateral edge, wherein the film and foam are substantially unsealed along the entire transverse width between the first and second sealed portions near the lateral edges of the foam material.
Welding apparatus
A welding apparatus is suitable for welding polymeric materials, and particularly but not exclusively those that may be thin or brittle. A welding apparatus is provided for welding polymeric materials along a weld zone of the polymeric material. The welding apparatus has a carrier for supplying heat to the weld zone to cause melting of the polymeric material, wherein the heating element is arranged to reciprocate relative to the carrier between a retracted and an extended configuration, such that as the element moves from the retracted to the extended configuration the heating element melts and penetrates the surface of the polymeric material. The carrier also has a trailing contact surface trailing the heating element along the weld zone arranged to constrain molten polymeric material in the weld zone. The heating element is also arranged to reciprocate relative to the trailing contact surface.
System and method for simultaneous welding of plastic bags using a carrier film
A laser welding system is directed to simultaneously joining respective layers of a first bag and a second bag. The system includes a first film layer adjacent to a second film layer for forming the first bag, and a third film layer adjacent to a fourth film layer for forming the second bag, each layer of the plurality of film layers being made of a thermoplastic material that absorbs laser radiation having a wavelength of about 2 microns. A non-absorbing carrier film layer is positioned between the second film layer and the third film layer, the non-absorbing carrier film layer being made of a material that transmits substantially all energy of the laser radiation. A laser source applies the laser radiation toward portions of the plurality of film layers to be joined, forming the first bag generally simultaneously with the second bag.
