Wind turbine blade manufacture
A wind turbine blade and associated method of manufacture is described. The blade comprises an outer shell formed of first and second half shells joined together. A shear web is arranged inside the outer shell. The shear web has a web panel disposed between first and second longitudinally-extending mounting flanges. The shear web is bonded to inner surfaces of the respective half shells via a first adhesive bond line between the first mounting flange and the inner surface of the first half shell and a second adhesive bond line between the second mounting flange and the inner surface of the second half shell. One or more bond spacers are provided in the second bond line, and optionally in the first bond line. The bond spacers are compressed between a shear web mounting flange and an inner surface of a half shell and are plastically deformed. The method of making the shear web involves compressing and the one or bond spacers in the bond line(s) such that they undergo plastic deformation. This results in high quality bond lines.

Method and apparatus for welding a roofing membrane
A machine for welding an overlapped region of two adjacent strips of material and a method of using the same. The machine includes a housing with front and rear ends, a wheel train engaged with the housing for moving the housing across the material; a nozzle on the housing having a welding head at a free end; the nozzle being positionable at least partially beneath the housing's bottom wall for welding the overlapped region; front and rear pressure rollers engaged with the housing, where the front roller is positioned forwardly of the welding head and the rear roller is positioned rearwardly of the welding head; wherein the rear pressure roller applies pressure to the overlapped region when the wheel train moves the housing in a forward direction; and the front pressure roller applies pressure to the overlapped region when the wheel train moves the housing in a reverse direction.
Laser welding apparatus and laser welding method
A laser welding apparatus is provides that includes: a support member including a heat generation portion which has a size that is limited to correspond to a size of a welding area of a plurality of plastic components and is made from a material that absorbs a laser beam and generates heat, and which generates heat of a temperature that is equal to or greater than a melting temperature of the plastic components; a laser beam irradiation unit for converging a laser beam to be transmitted through the plurality of plastic components, and irradiating the laser beam toward the heat generation portion through the plurality of plastic components; and a welding controller for causing a laser beam to be irradiated at the heat generation portion using the laser beam irradiation unit to thereby cause the heat generation portion to generate heat, and welding abutting faces of a welding area of the plurality of plastic components with heat that is generated.

Weld Seam, Method and Device for Connecting Plastics Films by Thermal Joining, and Use of a Blow-Forging Press
Weld seam, method and device for connecting plastic films (10) by thermal joining, wherein the plastic films (10) are connected between welding jaws (2, 4) along a weld seam (12). According to the invention, the device comprises a pair of unheated welding jaws (2, 4) between which the plastic films (10) are arranged parallel to each other for thermal joining. A device for impulse generation (30) applies an impact impulse to one of the welding jaws (2, 4) with a penetration time into the plastic films (10) of less than 10 ms with a first intensity (Fi1). The impact impulse acts on the plastic films (10), wherein a heating in the material caused by deformation is produced and the weld seam (12) is formed in an effective area of the welding jaws (2, 4); use of a blow-forging press.
