The present invention general related to a method and a reusable mold for making a contact lens, comprising a first mold half having a first mold surface in contact with a hydrogel contact lens forming composition and a second mold half having a second mold surface in contact with the lens forming composition, wherein the first mold half and the second mold half are configured to receive each other such that a cavity is formed between the first mold surface and the second mold surface, wherein the cavity defines the shape of a contact lens to be molded, wherein the lens forming composition is polymerizable and/or crosslinkable by an actinic radiation, wherein at least one of the mold halves having an absorbing antireflective coating, wherein the reusable mold is a non-plastic mold.

COLOR MASK FOR EMBEDDED CONTACT LENSES

An embedded contact lens that comprises a lens body that has an anterior surface and an opposite posterior surface. The lens body is composed of a bulk hydrogel material and a circular insert embedded in the bulk hydrogel material and comprises an annular mask on the anterior surface or the posterior surface of the lens body. The circular insert comprises a peripheral edge. Both the annular mask and the insert are concentric with a central axis of the lens body. The annular mask is an opaque colored area that covers or overlaps the peripheral edge of the circular insert to minimize or eliminate optical disturbances induced by peripheral edge of the circular insert.

Method for making photochromic contact lenses

Described herein is a method for producing a contact lens comprising a central photochromic zone that has a diameter of about 13 mm or less and is concentric with the central axis of the contact lens. The method comprises: applying a first polymerizable fluid composition containing at least one photochromic compound on a central portion of the molding surface of a female mold half to form a circular layer; partially photocuring, in situ, the circular layer in the female mold half by using a visible light; dispensing a second polymerizable fluid composition over the partially-cured circular layer on the molding surface of the female mold half; and a step of thermally curing the second polymerizable fluid composition and the partially-cured circular layer immersed therein in the mold cavity formed between the molding surfaces of the female mold half and a male mold half.

A toric contact lens (1) having a front surface and a rear surface, one of said front and rear surfaces includes a toric optical zone and a lens edge surrounding the contact lens (1). The contact lens further has a ballast axis (3) and includes at least one ballast mark (41, 42, 43) identifying the position of the ballast axis (3). Each ballast mark (41, 42, 43) includes a one-dimensional dot pattern (5) having a lens identification code and being arranged to extend radially towards the lens edge at an angular position relative to the position of the ballast axis (3). The angular position of the one-dimensional dot pattern identifies the position of the ballast axis.

MOLD FOR CONTACT LENS WITH NON-ROTATIONALLY SYMMETRIC RIM OR EDGE

A mold for a front curve of an ophthalmic lens includes an inner region having a non-rotationally symmetric shape, an outer region having a rotationally symmetric shape, and a continuous middle region between the inner region and the outer region. A first portion of the middle region is in contact with the inner region, defining a non-rotationally symmetric rim or edge of a front surface of the ophthalmic lens. A second portion of the middle region is in contact with the outer region and is rotationally symmetrical.

Embedded hydrogel contact lenses

The invention relates to a method for producing embedded hydrogel contact lenses involving a set of 3-mold halves consisting essentially of: one female lens mold half having a molding surface defining the anterior surface of a contact lens; one male lens mold half having a molding surface defining the posterior surface of the contact lens; and an insert mold half having a molding surface defining one of the front and back surfaces of an insert. One of the lens mold halves is used twice: first with the insert mold half for molding an insert during first curing process and then with the other lens mold half for molding an embedded hydrogel contact lens with the molded insert embedded partially or fully therein during second curing process. The invention also relates to embedded hydrogel contact lenses produced from a method of the invention.

MOISTURIZED CONTACT LENS AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME

A moisturized contact lens and a method of manufacturing the same are provided. A lens of at least one quasi-contact lens is placed on a pallet of a modification processing machine for contact lenses. Then an electric arc generating unit is driven by a feed unit of the modification processing machine for contact lenses to remove impurities clogged pores of a lens of the quasi-contact lens and form circular grooves on surface of the lens of the quasi-contact lens. Thereby breathability, oxygen permeability, and hydrophilicity of the contact lens are restored. The circular grooves are for storage of tears so that wettability between eyeballs and the contact lens can be maintained for a long time and tear circulation is improved. Users won't have discomfort and dry eyes caused by insufficient moisture even wearing the contact lens for a long time and eye drops or artificial tears are not used.
