Method for producing photochromic contact lenses
The invention provides a method for producing photochromic silicone hydrogel (SiHy) contact lenses based on thermal cast-molding technology in a relatively efficient and consistent manner. The method is characterized by selecting a high radical-reactive hydrophilic acrylic monomer while eliminating any low radical-reactive hydrophilic N-vinyl amide monomer in a lens formulation (polymerizable composition), by selecting a weight ratio of low-radical-reactive hydrophilic N-vinyl amide monomer to a high radical-reactive hydrophilic acrylic monomer in a lens formulation if the low radical-reactive hydrophilic N-vinyl amide monomer is needed, and/or by using a relatively high temperature thermal initiator in a lens formulation, to control the lens properties (e.g., water content, elastic modulus, etc.) and lens processability (capability of dry-delensing from molds) of thermally cast-molded SiHy contact lenses while minimizing loss in photochromic ability of resultant SiHy contact lenses.
Gradient photochromic dimming device and optical assembly including the same
An optical dimming device is provided. The optical dimming device includes a photochromic element including a photochromic composition. The photochromic composition includes a combination of a first photochromic material and a second photochromic material having different steady-state absorption profiles. In a direction from a first portion to a second portion of the photochromic element, a concentration of the first photochromic material in the combination decreases and a concentration of the second photochromic material in the combination increases.
METHOD FOR MAKING PHOTOCHROMIC CONTACT LENSES
Described herein is a method for producing a contact lens comprising a central photochromic zone that has a diameter of about 13 mm or less and is concentric with the central axis of the contact lens. The method comprises: applying, in the center of the molding surface of a male mold half, a drop (having a volume of about 5 μL or less) of a first polymerizable fluid composition containing at least one photochromic compound and a relatively-high molecular weight polysiloxane vinylic crosslinker for increasing the viscosity and adhesion on the molding surface of the male mold half; dosing a second polymerizable fluid composition in a female mold hald; closing the female mold hald with the male mold half with the drop thereon to form a molding assembly; and curing the second polymerizable fluid composition and the drop of the first polymerizable fluid composition in the molding assembly.

The invention relates to an ophthalmic article (1) in particular for sunglasses, comprising: first layer (9) made of photochromic cellulose triacetate having a rear face (9.sub.R) to be oriented toward an eye (7) of a user and a front face (9.sub.F) to be oriented toward the field of vision (13) of the user, and a second layer (10) made of polyamide having a rear face (10.sub.R) to be oriented toward an eye (7) of a user and a front face (10.sub.F) to be oriented toward the field of vision (13) of the user, the first layer (9) being disposed proximate to the field of vision (13) of the user with regard to the second layer (10) being disposed proximate to the eye (7) of the user.
Method of producing photochromic resin body and method of producing function-adding base body
A method of producing a photochromic resin body includes a first step, a second step and a third step. In the first step, a sublimable photochromic dye having sublimability is applied to a base body so as to obtain a function-adding base body. In the second step, the function-adding base body obtained in the first step is set to face a resin body, the function-adding base body is heated to sublimate the sublimable photochromic dye applied to the function-adding base body, and the sublimable photochromic dye is deposited on the resin body. In the third step, the resin body on which the sublimable photochromic dye is deposited in the second step is heated to fix the sublimable photochromic dye on the resin body.
METHOD OF PREPARING A FUNCTIONAL LAMINATE
The present disclosure relates to a method of preparing a laminate or a laminated lens, comprising obtaining a first plastic substrate having a front surface and a back surface, treating the front surface of the first plastic substrate or the back surface of the first plastic substrate, and laminating a second plastic substrate on the treated front surface of the first plastic substrate or the treated back surface of the first plastic substrate. The treating may include applying a polyurethane resin to a surface of the first plastic substrate. The method may further comprise treating a surface of the second plastic substrate. The method may further comprise applying activator to the treated surfaces of the first plastic substrate and the second plastic substrate and laminating by apposing the treated surfaces of the first plastic substrate and the second plastic substrate.
