Fluoropolymer blend
The present invention relates to the preparation of a thermoplastic fluoropolymer blend composition exhibiting improved mechanical properties upon fabrication. The fluoropolymer blend composite on is produced by blending an emulsion latex of fluoropolymer (A) with an emulsion latex of fluorinated copolymer (B). Copolymer (B) emulsion has a small particle size, super high MW, and a low degree of crystallinity. The blending of the latex emulsions results in a morphology with small particles of copolymer (B) uniformly distributed within a matrix of fluoropolymer (A) in a manner that could not be achieved by a mere melt blending of the tow components.

Monofilament-reinforced hollow fiber membrane with scalloped lumen
A hollow fiber membrane is formed by embedding a braid having a spiral open weave of monofilaments only, to avoid a whiskering problem. The open weave is characterized by contiguous, circumferential, rhomboid-shaped areas of polymer film separated by monofilaments. When the braid is supported on a plasticized PVA cable having a scalloped periphery, the braid can be infiltrated with membrane polymer which, when coagulated, embeds the braid positioning it around the lumen. The embedded spiral weave, free of any circumferentially constricting monofilament, allows the membrane to be biaxially distensible. The membrane has give not only in the axial or longitudinal direction but also in the radial direction. Give in the radial direction permits soiled membranes to be backwashed under higher pressure than in a comparable braid which is not radially distensible.

A piezoelectric fabric can include: a non-woven, continuous fiber mat comprising: a polymer; and a plurality of piezoelectric ceramic particles. The piezoelectric fabric can be produced by electrospinning. The method of electrospinning can include: forming a continuous fiber of material comprising: flowing a fluid through a needle, wherein the fluid comprises: the polymer; a base fluid; and the piezoelectric ceramic particles; and applying a voltage to create an electric field between a tip of the needle and a collector during fluid flow; and collecting the continuous fiber on the collector. The piezoelectric fabric can exhibit improved performance and piezo thermal stability.
