Methods and apparatus are provided for eyeglass lens made using a solution casting process. The method may include providing a first soluble polymer solution. The method may include providing a first dye solution including at least one dye. The method may include adding the first dye solution to the first soluble polymer solution to form a first dyed solution. The method may include casting the first dyed solution to form a first film. The method may include providing a second soluble polymer solution. The method may include providing a second dye solution comprising at least one dye. The method may include adding the second dye solution to the second soluble polymer solution to form a second dyed solution. The method may include casting the second dyed solution onto the first film to form a two-layer film. The method may include laminating or casting the two-layer film to the eyeglass lens.

FUNCTIONAL SHEET INCLUDING POLYESTER RESIN, AND LENS USING FUNCTIONAL SHEET
The present invention provides a functional sheet including a functional layer provided between protective layers. The functional layer is a polarizing film layer, a photochromic layer, or a combination of the polarizing film layer and the photochromic layer. At least one of the protective layers includes a layer formed of a resin (C) containing a polyester resin (A) obtained as a result of polycondensation of 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol and 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid and an aromatic polycarbonate resin (B), the polyester resin (A) being contained at a content of 10 to 100 parts by mass and the aromatic polycarbonate resin (B) being contained at a content of 0 to 90 parts by mass with respect to 100 parts by mass as a total of the polyester resin (A) and the aromatic polycarbonate resin (B). A lens is provided with such a functional sheet.

A system and method for manufacturing an ophthalmic lens is provided. The method involves preparing a cross-polarization cancelling optical film for an optical article comprising providing a film having at least a first section comprising a first edge, a second section comprising a second edge, and a predetermined color intensity; providing an apparatus, wherein the apparatus comprises at least a first roller and a second roller, wherein the first roller and the second roller are configured to stretch at least a portion of the film; and continuously and asymmetrically stretching at least a portion of the film using the apparatus, while substantially maintaining the color intensity of the film.
ROLL-TO-ROLL METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING A 2D/3D GRATING SWITCH MEMBRANE
A roll-to-roll method for manufacturing 2D/3D grating switch membrane is performed in such a way that: Step 1 and Step 2 are simultaneously performed, then Step 3 is performed, and finally Step 4 is performed: Step 1, subjecting a concave grating facing down to rubbing and liquid crystal dropping; Step 2, uniformly coating a PI liquid onto a surface layer of a mirror-face metal roller, and performing self-hating and rubbing; Step 3, making the concave grating rubbed and dropped with liquid crystals in Step 1 and PI layer coated and directionally-rubbed on the mirror-face metal roller in Step 2 attached to each other, forming a grating membrane, and rotating and pre-baking the grating membrane with the mirror-face metal roller; Step 4, curing the attached and baked grating membrane by the UV curing means and after stripping, collecting and winding through the 2D/3D grating switch membrane collecting roller.
Method and apparatus for continuously producing optical panel assemblies
A method of producing an optical panel assembly including the polarizing film in a continuous manner by laminating a polarizing film to a surface of a rectangular-shaped optical panel, is disclosed. The polarizing film is formed by performing a step of subjecting a laminate including a continuous web of a thermoplastic resin substrate and a PVA type resin layer formed on the substrate, to a 2-stage stretching consisting of a preliminary in-air stretching and an in-boric-acid-solution stretching, to reduce a thickness of the PVA type resin layer to 10 μm or less, and a step of causing a dichroic material to be absorbed in the PVA type resin layer.
PROTECTIVE FILM-ATTACHED FUNCTIONAL SHEET
A protective film-attached functional sheet includes a protective film bonded to a functional sheet including aromatic polycarbonate sheets and a functional layer sandwiched between the aromatic polycarbonate sheets, the functional layer being a polyvinyl alcohol polarizing film layer, a photochromic layer, or a combination. The protective film is a polyolefin resin film that includes at least two layers: a base layer formed of a polypropylene having a melting point equal to or higher than a glass transition temperature of the aromatic polycarbonate and an adhesive layer on one surface of the base layer and being a resin composition containing a polyolefin rubber and a polyolefin having a melting point lower than the glass transition temperature but equal to or higher than 15° C. lower than the glass transition temperature; or at least three layers: the aforementioned two layers and an intermediate layer between the base layer and the adhesive layer.
Curved lenses and related methods
Curved lenses and methods for making curved lenses are described. One embodiment of a method of making a curved lens includes curving a lens blank made of a linear polarizer layer laminated together with a plurality of polymeric layers. The lens blank is curved by heating and pressing the lens blank between a curved rigid member and a flexible member at a pressure and maintaining the pressure for a time sufficient to allow the lens blank to conform to the shape of the curved rigid member. Methods of the invention may be used to make curved lenses with different polarization properties and curvatures.
THIN POLARIZING LENS
An object of the present invention is to provide a thin and lightweight polarizing lens for use in lightweight sunglasses (in particular, rimless sunglasses) while maintaining the clamping force and mechanical strength of a temple part, and a manufacturing method therefor. The values of: the center thickness v of a polarizing lens A including an injection-molded layer 3 laminated on at least one surface of a polarizing sheet B, the injection-molded layer having a polyamide-based resin; and the flexural modulus of the injection-molded layer 3 are adjusted, thus the predetermined clamping force and mechanical strength of a temple part are obtained even in the case of sunglasses with the thin and lightweight polarizing lens.
