Trim breaker having metallic insert for decreased gas permeation
A vacuum insulated structure includes a trim breaker having a wrapper channel and a liner channel that extend perimetrically about the trim breaker. An inner liner is attached to the trim breaker at the liner channel. An outer wrapper is attached to the trim breaker at the wrapper channel. A metallic plate is disposed within the trim breaker and extends from a first area proximate the liner channel to a second area proximate the wrapper channel. The metallic plate defines an internal barrier to gas permeation through the trim breaker.

(A): a (meth) acrylate compound in which a substituted or unsubstituted alicyclic hydrocarbon group having 6 or more carbon atoms is ester-bonded, and which, when measured with a rotational viscometer at a constant shear rate in the same manner as above, exhibits a viscosity of 5 to 300 mPa.Math.s as a viscosity measured at 25 C. and 10 to 100 s.sup.1; (B): spherical silica; and (C): a black pigment.
Dispersed fiber mat formation
A process and system are provided for introducing chopped and dispersed carbon fibers on an automated production line amenable for inclusion in molding compositions, including the debundling of many carbon fibers collectively forming a tow into dispersed chopped carbon fibers that form a filler that undergoes plasma treatment prior to introducing coating silanes to uniformly increase bonding sites for coupling to a thermoset matrix. By exposing carbon tow to a plasma discharge, the carbon tow debundles and is used to form sheets of molding compositions with chopped dispersed fibers added to the composition, as the sheets move along a conveyor belt on the automated production line and at least one plasma generator mounted above the conveyor belt ionizes the carbon fibers. With resort to deionized air to mix plasma-treated chopped fibers, still further dispersion results.
Welding process for sealing a battery module
The present disclosure relates to a battery module that includes a housing having a first protruding shelf along a first perimeter of the housing, a second protruding shelf along a second perimeter of the housing, where the first and second protruding shelves each include an absorptive material configured to absorb a first laser emission. The battery module also includes an electronics compartment cover configured to be coupled to the housing via a first laser weld, and a cell receptacle region cover configured to be coupled to the housing via a second laser weld. The electronics compartment cover has a first transparent material configured to transmit the first laser emission toward the first protruding shelf and the cell receptacle region cover has a second transparent material configured to transmit the first laser emission or a second laser emission toward the second protruding shelf.
Foaming technology in long glass fiber filled materials
A foamed part, includes: a long glass fiber filled polymeric material, wherein the long glass fibers have an initial length before molding of the foamed part and a final length after molding of the foamed part; wherein a post-molding length of the long glass fibers in the foamed part is greater than or equal to a post-molding length of long glass fibers in a similarly dimensioned foamed part made without a pressurized plasticizing unit.
Laminating film resistant to discoloration caused by cooking, and film-laminated metal sheet
A blended polyester laminating film resistant to discoloration caused by cooking, comprising polyethylene terephthalate and polybutylene terephthalate. The blended polyester laminating film comprises three layers, i.e., upper, middle, and lower layers. One surface layer contains SiO.sub.2 in a mass fraction of 1200-2000 ppm added by in-situ polymerization. The blended polyester laminating film is manufactured by a three-layer coextrusion biaxial stretching method, and the manufacturing method is 240-275 C. A film-laminated metal sheet manufactured from the blended polyester laminating film has excellent resistance to discoloration caused by cooking, and is applied to metal containers for food and beverage packaging that require high-temperature sterilization.
FUNCTIONAL SOFT MATERIALS AND METHODS OF MAKING AND USING THEREOF
Disclosed are functional materials for use in additive manufacturing (AM). The functional material can comprise an elastomeric composition (e.g., a silicone composite) for use in, for example, direct ink writing. The elastomeric composition can include and elastomeric resin, and a magnetic nanorod filler dispersed within the elastomeric resin. Nanorod characteristics (e.g., length, diameter, aspect ratio) can be selected to create 3D-printed constructs with desired mechanical properties along different axes. Furthermore, since nickel nanorods are ferromagnetic, the spatial distribution and orientation of nanorods within the continuous phase can be controlled with an external magnetic field. This level of control over the nanostructure of the material system offers another degree of freedom in the design of functional parts and components with anisotropic properties. Magnetic fields can be used to remotely sense compression of the constructs, or alternatively, control the stiffness of these.
