An apparatus is provided for producing longitudinally corrugated product. The apparatus includes a guide roll for guiding a web of medium material, wherein at least a portion of the guide roll is adapted to be arranged at an angle relative to another portion of the guide roll. The apparatus further includes a plurality of flute forming bars oriented generally along a longitudinal axis of the web to define a first corrugating labyrinth effective to longitudinally corrugate the web to an intermediate geometry. The apparatus further includes a pair of corrugating rollers that cooperate to define, at a nip therebetween, a second corrugating labyrinth effective to longitudinally corrugate the web to a substantially final geometry. The apparatus further includes a web travel pathway for the web that follows a path around a portion of the guide roll, through the first corrugating labyrinth, and through the second corrugating labyrinth.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR INDUCING FLUTING IN A PAPER PRODUCT BY EMBOSSING WITH RESPECT TO MACHINE DIRECTION
20170274616 · 2017-09-28 ·

A system and method for inducing fluting in paper aligned in a machine direction of the paper while the paper is being fed through the board-making machine in the machine direction. In an embodiment, a method of producing the medium for a board product includes unwinding paper from a paper roll in a machine direction that is naturally aligned with the machine direction of the paper. Then, an embossing or scoring stage embosses or scores the paper with fluting that is also aligned with the machine direction of the paper. The resultant fluted paper has flutes that are aligned with underlying fibers of the paper, thereby taking advantage of the natural strength of the aligned fibers in the machine direction of the paper. Further, embossing or scoring paper for fluting greatly reduces take-up when such a fluted medium is compared to a facing that may be combined with the fluting to yield a board product. Further, maximum combined board strength is realized when all underlying fibers of all participating papers are aligned in MD and flute direction.

3D printed paperboard creasing/cutting rule

A cutting and/or creasing rule is produced on a 3D printing machine which may be mounted on a board for use is a die for cutting and/or creasing a sheet of paperboard or other material into a blank for a carton. With the advent of additive manufacturing, i.e. 3D printing, it is now possible to eliminate traditional slotted die boards with generally rectangular steel cutting and creasing rules and replace same with surface printed boards with three-dimensional creasing and cutting rules.

A PROCESS FOR MAKING IN CONTINUOUS PRODUCTION FIBROUS WEBS WHICH ARE CORRUGATED ALONG THE MACHINE DIRECTION

Process for continuously producing ribbons of corrugated fibrous material, includes: starting from a continuous ribbon of fibrous material having transversal extensibility of not less than 8%, advancing the ribbon between a pair of forming rollers presenting ribs alternating with grooves, and having a center distance such that the ribs of one roller are partially housed within the grooves of the other roller and define between them a corrugated interspace having a thickness greater than the thickness of said ribbon and a width substantially equal to the width of the flat ribbon, which at the exit presents a longitudinal undulation obtained by transversal stretching thereof, passing the longitudinally corrugated ribbon thus obtained between a pair of stabilizing rollers with complementary ribs and grooves interpenetrating such as to present a distance between them less than the thickness of the ribbon thereby subjecting the ribbon to a stabilization compression of the obtained corrugations.
