Pre-impregnated fibre-reinforced composite material and manufactured article obtained by forming and complete curing of said pre-impregnated fibre-reinforced composite material
The invention relates to a pre-impregnated fibre-reinforced composite material in laminar form, obtained impregnating a fibrous mass with a polymeric binder composition and intended to be subjected to successive forming and complete curing operations to produce a fibre-reinforced composite material. The polymeric binder composition comprises one or more resins chosen in the group consisting of siloxane resins and silsesquioxane resins, and can optionally comprise one or more organic resins. The polymeric binder composition appears as a liquid with viscosity between 55000 and 10000 mPas at temperatures between 50° C. and 70° C. The polymeric binder composition forms a polymeric binder matrix, not cross-linked or only partially cross-linked, that fills the interstices of the fibrous mass. The invention also relates to a method for making said pre-impregnated fibre-reinforced composite material in laminar form. The invention also relates to a manufactured article obtained by hot forming and complete curing of the aforesaid pre-impregnated fibre-reinforced composite material, as well as a method for making said manufactured article.
LAMINATE
The invention relates to a laminate (10; 10a) having a core (12) containing a thermoplastic polymer and having metal cover layers (16) disposed on either side of the core (12), each cover layer (16) being connected to the core (12) via an adhesive layer (14) having at least one polymer layer (15).
ARTICLE WITH 2D AND 3D FIBER STRUCTURE
An article includes a completed fabric structure that has multiple plies of fiber reinforced fabric. A first portion of the fabric structure has a three-directional fiber reinforced configuration and, exclusive of the first portion, a second portion of the fabric structure having a two-directional fiber reinforced configuration. In the three-directional fiber reinforced configuration there are multiple plies that are bound together via a matrix and a plurality of fibers normal through the multiple plies. In the two-directional fiber reinforced configuration the multiple plies are bound to one another via the matrix and not fibers normal through the multiple plies.
FIRE BARRIER FOR WALL SHEATHING MATERIALS
A sheathing material includes a layer of ceramic paper to help prevent the burning of the sheathing during a fire. The material may include insulation disposed between the ceramic paper and the substrate to further reduce damage to the substrate, and may include a thin layer of wood or paper placed over the ceramic paper to protect the ceramic paper and to allow the sheathing to be used in a manner similar to that of a conventional sheathing material.
CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITE ARTICLES HAVING DIFFERENT LOCALIZED PROPERTIES AND METHODS FOR FORMING SAME
Ceramic matrix composite articles include, for example a first plurality of plies of ceramic fibers in a ceramic matrix defining a first extent, and a local at least one second ply in said ceramic matrix defining a second extent on and/or in said first plurality of plies with the second extent being less than said first extent. The first plurality of plies has a first property, the at least one second ply has at least one second property, and said first property being different from said at least one second property. The different properties may include one or more different mechanical (stress/strain) properties, one or more different thermal conductivity properties, one or more different electrical conductivity properties, one or more different other properties, and combinations thereof.
CURABLE PREPREGS WITH SURFACE OPENINGS
Curable prepregs possessing enhanced ability for the removal of gases from within prepregs and between prepreg plies in a prepreg layup prior to and/or during consolidation and curing. Each curable prepreg is a resin-impregnated, woven fabric that has been subjected to a treatment to create an array of openings in at least one major surface. Furthermore, the location of the openings is specific to the weave pattern of the fabric.
FIBER-REIMFORCED MOLDED BODIES MADE OF EXPANDED PARTICLE FOAM MATERIAL
The present invention relates to a molding made of expanded bead foam, wherein at least one fiber (F) is partly within the molding, i.e. is surrounded by the expanded bead foam. The two ends of the respective fibers (F) that are not surrounded by the expanded bead foam thus each project from one side of the corresponding molding. The present invention further provides a panel comprising at least one such molding and at least one further layer (S1). The present invention further provides processes for producing the moldings of the invention from expanded bead foam or the panels of the invention and for the use thereof, for example as rotor blade in wind turbines.
Highly-filled polyurethane composites with fiber reinforcement
Composite panels and methods of preparation are described herein. In some embodiments, the composite panel can include a first fiber reinforcement, a polyurethane composite having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface, wherein the first surface is in contact with the first fiber reinforcement; and a cementitious material adjacent the first fiber reinforcement opposite the polyurethane composite. The polyurethane composite can be formed from (i) one or more isocyanates selected from the group consisting of diisocyanates, polyisocyanates, and mixtures thereof, (ii) one or more polyols, and (iii) a particulate filler. The fiber reinforcement can be formed from a woven or non-woven material, such as glass fibers. The composite panel can further include a material, such as a second fiber reinforcement and a cementitious layer, in contact with the second surface of the polyurethane composite. Articles comprising the composite panels are also disclosed.
NONWOVEN MAT WITH REDUCED PERMEABILITY AND INCREASED CALIPER
A nonwoven mat and a method of making a nonwoven mat are provided. The nonwoven mat includes reinforcing fibers and a binder composition that includes a polycarboxy polymer and polymer microspheres. The binder composition may also include low-density fibers, such as microfibrillated cellulose fibers. The polymer microspheres have a thermoplastic shell that encapsulates a blowing agent. The thermoplastic shell has magnesium hydroxide on its outer surface. The components of the binder composition interact with one another and/or the reinforcing fibers to form a nonwoven mat having a less permeable structure and a higher caliper.
